It would be the perfect selection for students to read independently during their free time in any classroom to build interest in reading for fun. The author effectively organizes the collection of stories, although each short story sees one or more new characters being introduced. The author uses text features such as the table of contents and chapter headings to organize each story. The author also manipulates text features to better appeal to the reader. For example, the text reads: "Klaus the mouse has a very small house. A very, very, very, very, very small house. But Klaus the mouse hates his small house...because Klaus is a very, very, very big mouse." As a student tracks the words about Klaus the mouse, he or she will notice how the words increase and decrease in size, depending on the meaning and action of the story. The fun does not cease with Klaus the mouse too big for his house.
