LEGO first revealed the Star Wars Rancor Pit (75005) at San Diego Comic Con last summer. After building and reviewing Jabba’s Palace, the set felt incomplete without the Rancor Pit under it. Early this year, LEGO released the Pit in the first wave of 2013. The set contains 380 pieces and retails for $59.99, which comes to about $0.16/piece. The box contains one instruction booklet, four numbered bags, and two unnumbered bags. There are three or four minifigures in the set, depending if you want to count the skeleton as one, and the Rancor. Luke Skywalker is in his Jedi Knight outfit, which is mostly black with a grey tunic. He has a double-sided face with a happy expression on one side and an angry expression on the other side. He has a bone for his accessory. The Gamorrean Guard is the same exact one as in the Jabba’s Palace set. Malakili is a human servant of Jabba and he takes care of the Rancor. He doesn’t have any clothing for his torso and only has some chest hairs.

The legs are solid olive green. He has a doulbe-sided face as well with a serious look on one side and a sad/crying expression with a tear on the other. He has a brown hood for his head. Malakili’s accessory is a black gaffi stick. The skeleton is the normal skeleton that we’ve seen before. Finally, we the big boy of the set, the rancor. It is brown and the arms are able to swing almost a full 360 degrees. The middle two fingers are able to open and close while the outside two are stationary. Both the wrists are able to turn a full 360 degrees as well. The mouth is able to open enough to fit a minifigure inside. The head and legs are not able to move. There is a chain that connects to the right wrist. The pit is just a square area that fits right under Jabba’s throne room of the palace. It fits perfectly by the way of the grey sloped pieces on top of the pit that become a pyramid to fit in slots under the throne room. There are some details to the set including the large brown portcullis that can stay open by the way of a couple of Technic pins.
