LEGO Movie Sequel switches directors, plus first Ninjago stillAlmost exactly a year ago it was announced that director/comic book artist Rob Schrab (Community, The Mindy Project) would mark his feature directorial debut on The LEGO Movie Sequel, the eagerly-awaited follow-up to the worldwide sensation The LEGO Movie. Now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Schrab has exited directing duties over the usual “creative differences,” and animation vet Mike Mitchell (Trolls, Shrek Forever After, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water) has taken over. At the same time USA Today has posted the first still from Warner Bros. Pictures spin-off The LEGO Ninjago Movie, which you can check out in the gallery below!Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who wrote and directed The LEGO Movie, wrote the first draft of the sequel script based on a story by Lord, Miller, Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan. Warner Bros. announced Friday that the follow-up to the 2014 animated blockbuster has been pushed back by nearly nine months, to Feb. 8, 2019. It was previously set to open May 18, 2018. If it’s any consolation, the spinoffs “The LEGO Batman Movie” and “Ninjago” remain on tap for next year. The calendar shuffle also sees the Gerard Butler “Geostorm” pushed back a second time, from Jan. 13, 2017, to Oct. 20, 2017, swapping dates with the Ben Affleck crime drama “Live By Night.” “Bastards,” the comedy starring Ed Helms and Owen Wilson, also shifts from Nov. 4, 2016 — where it would’ve gone up against Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” — to Jan. 27, 2017.

When "The Lego Movie" was announced, folks were skeptical. The idea of a film based entirely around a child's plaything seemed like a two-hour commercial at best. But then Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's movie debuted and you could hear the collective jaws from audience members around the world hit the floor with a thud. It was funny, fresh, created out of fantastically mesmerizing Lego animation. The movie would go on to gross $469 million worldwide and spark a collection of spinoff films and a sequel. And today we're met with the first teaser trailer for the spinoff movie for Lego Batman, one of the more beloved members of the "Lego Movie" builder bunch voiced by Will Arnett. Now it's Batman's time to shine in his own feature film, "The Lego Batman Movie." And unlike his current live-action movie counterparts, this Batman is funny. Arnett is back voicing the gravel-voiced, millionaire who loves black, gray and darker gray. Chris McKay, who was animation co-director and editor on the original "Lego Movie," is directing.

The footage in this teaser trailer is both completely self-aware and charming, what other franchise could get away with 20 seconds of hot lobster thermidor microwaving action and still come across this endearing? "The Lego Batman Movie" is scheduled to premiere on Feb. 10, 2017. 'Batman v Superman' is not worth your money, many reviews sayReview: 'Batman v Superman,' with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, is a gritty superhero showdown Video: Here comes Brainiac in 'Lego DC Comics Super Heroes - Justice League: Cosmic Clash'Lego Friends rooms come to the Legoland Hotel. And now, the duo behind "The Lego Movie" are headed to a galaxy far, far away.  announced that Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the team best known for the Oscar-nominated animated film, will direct a "Star Wars" anthology film. The directors, who were also behind "21 Jump Street, "22 Jump Street" and "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," will direct a stand-alone film based on a young Han Solo.

The spinoff, written by Lawrence Kasdan ("The Empire Strikes Back," "Return of the Jedi," "The Force Awakens") and Jon Kasdan ("The First Time"), will reveal how Han Solo became the "smuggler, thief, and scoundrel" we first met at the Mos Eisley Cantina."We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all." According to Entertainment Weekly, a Han Solo origin film, which was first rumored two years ago, was reportedly going to be one of the first films in the "Star Wars" anthology series. However, "Rogue One" from director Gareth Edwards, was pushed up as the first spinoff so as not to confuse fans after Harrison Ford's appearance in "The Force Awakens."

Before the young Han Solo spinoff hits theaters on May 25, 2018, there's lots of "Star Wars" to look forward to. J.J. Abrams' "The Force Awakens" will open Dec. 18, followed by "Rogue One" on Dec. 16, 2016. There's also the second "Star Wars" stand-alone film, which director Josh Trank left in May, as well as a separate rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off.
