Let me cut to the chase: the Trashoz clean up all of the garbage left untidy in the city of Mixopolis. Let’s hope not, and instead get on with taking a closer look at Gobbol, Sweepz and Compax before I need to go cry in the corner… Intelligent Gobbol takes out a lot of the heavier junk that the other Trashoz cannot. Two fish - one of which in orange (rare!) - are included to exemplify this. Gobbol can either hold the fish or store them in his dumpster mouth; unfortunately, once put in there, there is not much more interior space included for other extra pieces you may want to ‘dispose of’. However I understand that Gobbol would have become too big for a $5 set with the addition of a larger interior.
Ironically enough, in the show, Gobbol is huge and could fit Screeno and Myke as well as a whole bunch of objects! Animation won this battle… Gobbol’s hinged two-part top jaw, resembling dumpster lids, is wonderfully goofy and helpful for modifying his expression easily. Remarkably-detailed bright and dark green greebling creates a nice curved surface on his body. Gobbol is capped off with two pairs of wheels, perfect for rolling around Mixopolis! As if a near-perfect Mixel could not be more near-perfect, here is the final Nixel I will ever be reviewing; my second favorite of Series 9 tied with Camsta's! With their King destroyed and Major fleeing, it appears some Nixels have resorted to dumpster dwelling… do not be fooled though - despite its dirty appearance, it cannot fit inside Gobbol. However, I did find out that Compax can chew on it! Sweepz (of course misspelled from the plural form of sweep) is fun-loving and likes to show off while he cleans, so this green and yellow fellow gets easily distracted.
Fortunately, that is not an issue for his LEGO set… it is lifeless… obviously... Sweepz is my favorite of the Trashoz solely out of part usage - his tail is even made using a minifigure broom element and a hinge! This Mixel has a pretty logical basis, too - a rat! It’s sort of funny, because rats are known for getting into trash rather than cleaning it up. The real highlight of Sweepz, though, is his two green ‘street sweeper’ brush elements for arms - produced for the first time in bright green. Since the 90s, it has only been available in mostly City sets and shades of blue. My only bone to pick with the set is that the top jaw does not flow quite well with the bottom due to the short style of the torso; an issue that plagued 41565 Hydro as well… except it is pulled off slightly better here. Still, there is always room for improvement. All in all, Sweepz is a Mixel you are going to want to own, and ranks closely to 41577 Mysto as my second favorite in Series 9.
That sounds like Compax coming in for his review photoshoot. And yes, this is the final individual Mixel I will ever be reviewing. Enjoy the following paragraphs while they last. Compax here looks like an anthropomorphic garbage truck and trash compactor hybrid. He should also bring to mind The LEGO Movie set 70805 Trash Chomper from 2014, as there are many similarities between the two! His toque-covered eye also recalls Glowkie 41535 Boogly from last year. Compax’s curved mouth design has been borrowed from 41545 Kramm; sans the ‘cheek holes’ which have been graciously filled in. I was surprised to discover the variety of pieces that Compax is packed with. Buy multiples of him and you could create a sizable minifigure scale sanitation vehicle! Compax is equipped with two ball jointed shovel arms which are limited with articulation at the ‘shoulders’, not allowing him to truly push trash into his mouth. And speaking of that, also contained in this set is a glass for consumption!
Finally, the exhaust port can be rotated in order to open up Compax’s back and get rid of a day’s worth of digested waste! If you own 41564 Aquad from Series 8, then you know the type of play feature I am talking about. Compax is a pretty great Mixel to round out the Trashoz, but he is still my least favorite of them. The Trashoz are the very middle ground of Series 9, with them not being the best tribe nor the worst. I think all three ideas are equally creative and innovative, but some are executed better than others. Otherwise, they have a great concept that I am glad was used before Mixels wrapped up its occupational tribes (and wrapped itself up in general). Their color scheme looks great as well, but it is worth mentioning that the Glorp Corp and Orbitons have both used green before, in the same theme. Granted, only the Glorp Corp have used this particular shade. And to be honest, I struggle to think of a more appropriate main color for them… so yeah, get the Trashoz!
Also, here is Jang's review of all three tribe MAXes for the series. We have now concluded our reviews of Mixels Series 9. This was my fifth and final time reviewing a Mixels series for Brickset. I would like to thank Huw once more for his amazing photography! Series 9 is, in one word, awesome. While Mixels had so much more potential and it is a shame to see it end now, much of that potential has been used in this wave and it very much shows. As with previous waves, some models are a little weak while some are absolutely fantastic, with a few in between. And that is okay! Not everything can be absolutely perfect. I think I prefer last October’s Series 6 a tiny bit more, though. That is entirely my own opinion, so you can form your own! I still think it would totally be worth it to purchase all nine if you have room in your budget. When taking everything into consideration, the Trashoz, Nindjas and Newzers are impressive and a satisfactory finale to an excellent theme.
