Fans of Avatar, rejoice! There's a new video game in the works, courtesy of the studio that brought us The Division. According to Coming Soon, Ubisoft, Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox Interactive have joined forces with Massive Entertainment to develop a new game based on James Cameron's wonderful world of Pandora -- and we have the announcement trailer to share below. The new game will be available for PC and various consoles and will make use of Massive's Snowdrop engine used in both The Division and the upcoming South Park video game titled South Park: The Fractured But Whole. (Laughing forever about that one. The announcement adds that Massive and Lightstorm are working hand-in-hand to allow the players freedom to explore the world of Pandora in new and exciting ways, with the goal of expanding the movie universe -- which is already expanding, by the way, with Disney World's Animal Kingdom's upcoming Pandora: The World of Avatar theme park scheduled to open to the public on May 27.

The video below features interviews with the new Avatar Project development team, including: David Polfeldt, Managing Director Massive Entertainment; Magnus Jansen, Creative Director; Ditte Deenfeldt, Associate Creative Director and producer Petter Sydow. Last, but not least, the video boasts an interview with James Cameron, whose company, Lightstorm Entertainment, came on board after seeing a "Snowdrop-run game prototype." “What impressed me about Massive were the group's passion for this project, and the power of its Snowdrop engine. With the power of [Snowdrop], and the team’s passion and obsessive focus on detail, we know they're the right group to bring the beauty and danger of Pandora to life." Cameron is currently hard at work on his 843 Avatar sequels (just kidding ... there are four, yes, four sequels coming up for a total of five Avatar films) which will all be filmed simultaneously a la Lord of the Rings. The four scripts are now completed, and according to the Titanic director's recent interview with The Daily Beast, filming (via motion capture) should kick off in August.

"I've just finished the script to Avatar 5. I'm now starting the process of active prep. I'll be working with the actors in the capture volume in August, so I'm booked in production every day between now and then." Avatar 2 is slated to hit movie theaters in December 2018, with the following three movies opening in December 2020, 2022 and 2023. That’s a lot of Avatar coming up! From Give Elsa a Girlfriend to the Chirrut/Baze subtext and Poe Dameron theories, audiences are ready for Disney to finally(!) begin featuring non-straight characters in its movies. At long last, we can report that Disney has taken the leap from ambiguous background characters like Oaken and his probably-but-not-stated husband in Frozen to an actual, on-screen confirmed “exclusively gay moment”: Via Attitude, the honor goes to Josh Gad’s Le Fou in the upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast. Disney has finally heeded the call to add openly LGBTQ+ characters to its movies, and it’s starting with Beauty and the Beast. Le Fou, whose infatuation with Gaston is of course already canon, will have a “small but significant subplot of his own when it comes to his sexuality,” the magazine can reveal, having spoken to director Bill Condon, who explains, “Le Fou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston.” “He’s confused about what he wants,” Condon adds.

“It’s somebody who’s just realizing that he has these feelings. And Josh [Gad] makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.” Related: Emma Watson performs “Belle” in delightful new Beauty and the Beast clip It will probably also tie in nicely with one of the themes of the movie, which is the lack of tolerance in Belle’s small village. We already know that Belle is an outcast because of her smarts and ambition, and it will be interesting to see how Le Fou’s sexuality will be addressed in this context. Attitude editor-in-chief Matt Cain further explains why this moment is so significant: “It may have been a long time coming but this is a watershed moment for Disney. By representing same-sex attraction in this short but explicitly gay scene, the studio is sending out a message that this is normal and natural – and this is a message that will be heard in every country of the world, even countries where it’s still socially unacceptable or even illegal to be gay.”
