Though there have been plenty of platformers, puzzlers, mascots and, just, overall games appropriate for kids on the PlayStation platform, the console over the years -- particularly the PS3 (and now PS4) -- have a stigma of only being for "hardcore gamers." Sony attempted to change that with the release of Knack as a launch title, but there's an even greater game that can be deemed both fun and kid-friendly: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.Save for some graphical improvements and Remote Play, not much changes with the PS4. Core gameplay mechanics remain unchanged, so I won't touch too much on that. The camera at times presents some wonky views and switching between characters remains an annoyance, especially since you are required to do so often to solve puzzles.

On the whole though, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes on PlayStation 4 presents an opportunity to experience the same enjoyable action-puzzle-platforming gameplay with your favorite Marvel characers in adorable LEGO form. And on PS4, they look better than ever. Though some anti-aliasing is still apparent at times, the textures and lighting are slightly better and the draw-distance has been pushed out. The game looks great, but it looked good on the Wii U as well. For a LEGO game, it might be the best looking one I've seen yet. Perhaps the greatest benefit of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes on PS4 is the ability to play using Vita Remote Play. Those of you who own a Vita can now enjoy the full LEGO Marvel experience directly on your handheld, just as you would if playing on the big TV screen. Remote Play also allows for co-op without having to split screen, although one player will be delegated to the handheld screen (at least it's a pretty one!). Is Remote Play the only reason to get LEGO Marvel Super Heroes on PS4?

It's a nice feature, but probably not. What makes it's appearance on PS4 so great isn't the improved graphics, but rather the appropriateness for children. Note, this doesn't mean that the game can't be enjoyed by adults. I had a blast playing it and even got stumped on some puzzles, so there is a challenge here. On a console filled with shooters like Killzone and Call of Duty, TT Games' LEGO Marvel Super Heroes presents a nice break from the complex sports titles and intense shooters that overrun the console. That's not to say the game doesn't offer it's own action, but it's much less in your face. The countdown to 2017’s big game releases has already begun… Release dates: every game confirmed for 2017 2017 is shaping up to be a strong year for new releases, book-ended by a new Resident Evil in January and ending with a new Red Dead Redemption sometime later in the year. In between there’s the return of massive franchises such as Mass Effect, console exclusives like Detroit: Become Human, and the continued vibrancy of cool releases from the indie scene.

We’ve put together this list of games for every title confirmed for PS4, Xbox One and PC over the coming 12 months, as well as the addition of some of the more interesting or high-profile releases on other platforms, including those for Nintendo’s new console, the Switch. We’ll also note all major DLC updates for the biggest games too. We’ll update this throughout the year, juggling dates as games are announced and delayed, and as others are nailed down to specific months of the year. Now, what are you looking forward to playing? January starts strong with the return of Resident Evil, while the end of the month includes DLC for Infinite Warfare, the full release of last year’s Hitman episodes and our first look at Conan: Exiles. Ubisoft’s co-op online brawler For Honor shows promise for February, along with Xbox One exclusive Halo Wars 2 and the bombastic return of Sniper Elite. Some of us are holding out for Night in the Woods too. March is going to be the month that Nintendo launches a brand new console onto the market.

There’s a lot we don’t know about the Switch, but hardware launches are always exciting times so we expect a pretty lively month as publishers confirm their games for launch day. If that’s not your bag, Ubisoft is dropping new Tom Clancy spin-off Ghost Recon: Wildlands. As the year rolls on we’ll be able to define these titles by month when publishers confirm their release dates, but in the meantime these are all pegged for the first three months or “early 2017”. Expect some to be pushed back. We’re holding out for Mass Effect: Andromeda around this time as the big release in early 2017. The mad platform antics of Yooka-Laylee has been piquing our interest for long enough, so we’re glad to see this project from ex-Rare staffers is nailed down for April. Persona 5, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 and a remaster of Bulletstorm won’t go unnoticed, either. Namco’s Little Nightmares leads the releases during a quiet period, but we’re also intrigued by Sonic Mania, Cuphead and the release of Lego City Undercover around this time.

There are a lot of releases due between summer and the end of the year, but it’s a little too early for publishers to nail down dates in most cases. So as much as we’re expecting big hitters like Red Dead Redemption 2, Dawn of War 3, Crackdown 3 and Star Wars: Battlefront 2, we’re treating them all as fluid and would expect some on this list to slip into 2018. Delayed and announced for 2018 We’ve only just started 2017 and we’re looking at games coming out 2018. Unfortunately, you should expect this list to grow as the months roll on.Sign in to follow this WatertownsFinest, April 6, 2016 8 posts in this topic Create an account or sign in to comment You need to be a member in order to leave a comment Sign up for a new account in our community. TT Games is back this month with the release of their latest LEGO title – LEGO Marvel’s Avengers.

This will mark the second appearance of Marvel characters in a LEGO game, as the characters were not included in the recently released toys-to-life game LEGO Dimensions. It was disappointing, though not entirely surprising considering TT is owned by Warner Bros. The upcoming LEGO Marvel title, one of our most anticipated of 2016, will not be a sequel to the previously released LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, but will instead adhere to the overarching plotlines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The game will include over 200 playable Marvel characters, including newcomers like Kamala Khan, the new Ms. Marvel. While the game promises to be one of the biggest LEGO titles yet, Warner Bros. Interactive is already looking to the future. Today, the publisher announced two new DLC (downloadable content) packs coming to the game, one based on the upcoming Captain America: Civil War and the other based on the latest Marvel film Ant-Man. Both packs will be available for free, for a limited time, exclusively on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Available on launch day, the Civil War DLC pack doesn’t contain any new levels, in the interest avoiding spoilers for the film. Instead, the pack only features nine playable characters: Iron Man (MK 46) The Ant-Man DLC pack isn’t scheduled to be released until later in the spring, but the pack will be more substantial than its predecessor. In addition to more playable characters, the pack will feature a new level from the film – most likely with an emphasis on the characters’ shrinking mechanic. The characters included are: The Wasp (Janet Van Dyne) Most importantly, players will have the opportunity to fly Ant-Thony around the Ant-Man level as well as bring him into the main game. Perhaps the strangest character to be included in the DLC pack is Cassie Lang, Scott’s young daughter. She does eventually grow up to be a superhero in her own right, code-named Stature, but that character will be included in the main game. It’s unknown what abilities Cassie will have in the game, but the film version doesn’t have powers so far in the MCU.
