The Avengers are assembling again to take on the baddies in the LEGO world in a new video game that will be released in January 2016. And now fans of both Marvel comics and the LEGO franchise can see just what the game has in store for us in 12-minutes of gameplay footage that was just released. LEGO Marvel's Avengers focuses on a few recent Marvel films from its cinematic universe including Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: The Dark World, and more, with over 100 Marvel heroes and villains with different abilities that can be played with. Each section from the films is part of the linear storyline, but there are also minigames (like a thief that needs to be stopped), and sandbox areas that can be explored in the new free roam feature. The gameplay footage starts off with a recreation of the opening scene from Avengers: Age of Ultron, and since this is a LEGO game we are talking about, we are sure there will be lots of slapstick comedic moments throughout the game. In the 12-minutes of footage, we also see Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow and the Hulk in action as they attack Hydra's formerly secret base, highlighting the team aspect of the game.

Any two characters can team up to perform a special combination attack such as Hulk throwing Captain America. There is no denying that it's a game is full of explosive moments from just looking a few minutes of the gameplay. The game description is as follows: Play as Earth's Mightiest Heroes in their quest to save the world while reliving some of the most amazing moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the famed Battle of New York between the Avengers and Super Villain Loki as seen in Marvel's The Avengers. It’s a 1:23.5 scale version of the Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 mobile crane that’s fully drivable and fully functional thanks to 11 Lego motors hidden away inside. The crane’s outrigger support legs unfold by themselves, its arm raises, extends, and turns by itself, and it seems like every last motorized function can be operated from afar with a wireless remote control. Even watching this model drive is amazing, since it requires more than half of the wheels to turn in unison given it’s so incredibly long. You can keep your Netflix and HBO GO, I’m happy to just watch this video of the miniature Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 in action all day long instead. There’s no official piece count, but this model must weigh a ton.

It probably needs a slightly larger crane just to lift it off the floor. And while it would be awesome to see this creation posted to Lego Ideas, a set like this would easily cost well north of $1,000 if it ever hit toy store shelves—and be worth every penny. Follow us on Twitter or Facebook.Hey, remember that awesome moment in Age of Ultron where Black Widow rides a motorcycle out of a freaking jet on her way to save everyone’s butt? Wow, that sure is sweet! Heck, if Disney made a toy based on this scene, I might actually forgive them the otherwise almost total lack of Black Widow merchandise! Remember the scene where Black Widow drops out of the jet on the motorcycle? — Zac Shipley (@zacshipley) May 8, 2015 With your Captain America figure racing away, somebody needs to stick around in the cockpit. Luckily, the Cycle Blast Quinjet holds up to 4 2.5-inch Avengers figures!

Additional figures sold separately. Imagine your own battles as you put Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor, or Iron Man behind the controls and follow Captain America into the fight! As disappointed as we were that Age of Ultron saw Disney continuing the time-honored trend of excluding female heroes from its Marvel merchandise, we weren’t surprised. But this… this is some troll-level shit. #WheresGamora and previous calls for Nebula and Black Widow merch have taught us that Disney doesn’t see the value in developing merchandise for female characters that aren’t princesses, but erasing arguably Nat’s biggest moment of self-sacrifice and heroism from the movie and replacing her with Cap is a whole other level of doing willful disservice to young Marvel fans. Kids of all genders deserve to be shown that girls are capable of saving themselves and that femininity isn’t toxic or inferior, and the few (and remarkably elusive) Black Widow figurines Disney currently offers simply aren’t sufficient.

And it’s not just feminist bloggers that think that either; Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg, and young fans have all asked #WheresNatasha. Can’t wait to see how you keep this shitty streak going come Captain Marvel time, Disney. Your sexism might need to get a little more creative. UPDATE: Apparently Cap isn’t the only Avenger stealing Black Widow’s thunder: — Steve Mazeika (@SMazeika83) May 11, 2015It definitely makes more sense to give a totally unnecessary motorcycle to Iron Man (a character whose primary mode of transportation is flying around in an exoskeleton, so no motorcycles for him, thank-you) than it does to make a toy that demonstrates a female character’s competency and agency. UPDATE May 11th, 5:10 EST: Not surprisingly, it looks like Cap is the one doing all the heroics in the LEGO version of the scene as well: @TheMarySue The lego set for that scene does the same thing. — NurseBrak (@NurseBrak) May 11, 2015 But hey, there’s also an adorable Black Widow minifig this time around!
