I started this post last week and it's taken me a whole week to get back to finishing it. My girls were the creative ones this year, with their Little Way Valentines and Nutter Butter Heart Cookie Valentines! Here's a picture of my simple contribution to this year's St. Valentine's Day celebration with friends. I love our collection of bundt pans. (This particular heart pan is currently 48% off!) They made cake decorating so easy when I'm low on time. I had hoped to add lots of red berries, like I did for our daughter's When Calls the Heart birthday cake, but was never able to get to the store so I simply topped it with a holy card. Meanwhile our little ones colored a couple St. Valentine coloring pages. Someone couldn't find anything red to wear so he decided that green was the next best option, after all St. Patrick's day is coming up soon! He asked me to take a picture of his coloring page to show his Godmother, the illustrator. St. Valentine got to wear green this year too!
While our kids were at the party I had another ultrasound followed by another appointment with my doctor to check on the baby. Despite the never-ending nausea our little girl is healthy and well! Feb 4th: As of this weekend we've made it to 20 weeks! I still get sick and am nauseous on a daily basis (though not anywhere near as bad as the first trimester - those St. Nicholas Day letters/prayers from the kids did the trick!) and I have to be very careful to keep cramping to a minimum, especially with my history of pre-term labor, but it will all be worth it. Halfway there and so excited to meet our new baby girl this summer! Thank you all for the prayers. They are appreciated more than you know! Feb 14th: I'm so very grateful for all the extra prayers, they are making such a difference! I was blessed with another little peek at our baby girl today... She is doing well and my placenta has also moved up a few centimeters over the last two weeks to just above the low-lying/problem area!

Our role is to implement the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which will support a better life for hundreds of thousands of Australians with a significant and permanent disability and their families and carers. The NDIS will mean peace of mind for every Australian - for anyone who has, or might acquire, a disability. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers. The NDIS will provide about 460,000 Australians under the age of 65 with a permanent and significant disability with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to live an ordinary life. As an insurance scheme, the NDIS takes a lifetime approach, investing in people with disability early to improve their outcomes later in life.
The NDIS gives all Australians peace of mind that if their child or loved one is born with or acquires a permanent and significant disability they will get the support they need. The NDIS supports people with disability to build skills and capability so they can participate in the community and employment. The Helping Children With Autism package is designed to assist children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, their families and carers. It recognises the importance of diagnosis and early intervention treatments and services for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), along with the need for positive partnerships betweens their families and schools. The package will provide $190 million over 2007-2008 to 2011-2012 for: Of this $12,000 assistance package ($6000 per financial year) up to 35% can be used for purchase of appropriate resources. This is a maximum of $4200 ($2100 per year) of which can be used on equipment. 1. Download and complete the Sensory Tools order form with the resources you wish to purchase 2. Send your completed order form, along with your letter of introduction from your Autism Advisor, to your chosen approved Early Intervention Service provider. 3. Your service provider will get you to complete additional paper work in order for your order to be submitted 4. Your service provider will then fax or mail your order to Sensory Tools 5. Once Sensory Tools is advised that your order has been approved by the FORMS system, your service provider must pay for the order. 6. Once the order is paid for, your resources will be sent out. Your order can be sent to either your service provider or to your address Please note: Intervention resource items that are NOT eligible to be purchased using the early intervention funding include, but are not limited to, toys, books, strollers, swings and outdoor play equipment, digital devices including computers and cameras and software products for computers and digital devices. 1. Intervention resources can be purchased by families from providers delivering a specific intervention to that family under the Early Intervention Service Provider Panel with their early intervention funding.
2. Intervention resources must be used directly by the child as part of an eligible intervention being delivered by the provider and currently being accessed by the child under the Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) package. Therefore, intervention resources must form an integral part of the current delivery of the intervention under the HCWA package at the normal intervention delivery location. 3. Expenditure for intervention resources is limited to 35% of the family’s early intervention funding to a maximum of $4,200 in total ($2,100 per financial year). Families do not have to spend the full 35% of their early intervention funding on intervention resources. This portion of the funding can also be used (all or in part) for direct intervention. 4. The required intervention resources must also be included in the agreed initial individual treatment plan for the client. 5. The intervention resources must be provided to families directly by the provider from stock they provide as part of their normal business.
6. If the provision of an intervention resource is already included in the price of an intervention this can not be claimed a second time under the intervention resources policy. 7. The intervention resources must be available to all children receiving services from the provider, not just those receiving interventions as part of the HCWA funding. Intervention resources purchased from providers using the HCWA funding must remain the property of the family. 8. Intervention resource items that are NOT eligible to be purchased using the early intervention funding include, but are not limited to, toys, books, strollers, swings and outdoor play equipment, digital devices including computers and cameras and software products for computers and digital devices. 9. Requests or demands from families to purchase other healthcare products not covered in the intervention and individual treatment plan, or toys, books, strollers, swings and outdoor play equipment, digital devices including computers and cameras and software products for computers and digital devices, do not constitute reasonable grounds for providers to supply these products through the HCWA funding.
10. For a service provider to claim an intervention resource in FOFMS the family must first sign the service delivery record at the time of delivery of the intervention resource to the family. 11. Intervention resources must be claimed through FOFMS under the Case Claims Tab. When claiming for resources, select the Resource option from the Service Provider field. Select the unit of measure that corresponds to the intervention that the intervention resource was used in e.g. session. A claim in FOFMS for an intervention resource must include the intervention type and describe the intervention resource/s in the free text field, e.g. speech pathology - PECS cards. 12. Failure by providers to include a full description of the intervention resources purchased may result in the claim being cancelled by FaHCSIA. The provider will then need to resubmit the claim to FaHCSIA with the required information. 13. Providers must ensure that families do not exceed the 35% funding allocation, across all providers, for intervention resources or the $6,000 per financial year expenditure limit.
14. Providers should be aware that families are able to purchase intervention resources from other providers on the Panel that the families are receiving intervention from; either prior to or concurrently with the interventions and intervention resources they are currently accessing. 15. Regular monitoring of FOFMS that identifies spending in excess of this amount will result in payments not being processed. 16. Providers must ensure that all resources purchased by families with the early intervention funding are within the policy guidelines and the spending limit as outlined above. 17. Providers should be aware of their requirements under the Deed of Agreement to comply with FaHCSIA’s policies. See Part B, 6b of the Terms and Conditions of the Deed of Agreement. Providers should also be aware that random audits will be conducted to ensure that the intervention resource policy is being utilised in the correct manner. 18. Failure by providers to meet the requirements of this policy in delivering interventions and intervention resources may result in suspension from the Panel and/or investigation by the Commonwealth into allegations of the fraudulent claiming of Commonwealth funding.
