Building Sets Based on Epic Film Trilogy and Forthcoming Theatrical Release Slated for 2012 Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The LEGO Group announced today a partnership that awards the world’s leading construction toy brand exclusive rights to develop build-and-play construction sets based on THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ trilogy and the two films based on THE HOBBIT™. The multi-year licensing agreement grants access to the library of characters, settings, and stories for THE LORD OF THE RINGS property, as well as films The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. LEGO® THE LORD OF THE RINGS construction sets are slated for a rolling global launch beginning in June 2012 in the United States, with LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY scheduled for later in the year. “Only LEGO, with their expertise in the construction category, is capable of doing justice to the incredibly imaginative environments depicted in the world of THE LORD OF THE RINGS and the two films based on THE HOBBIT,” said Karen McTier, executive vice president, domestic licensing and worldwide marketing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

“These films give life to amazing worlds and characters and we are thrilled to bring fans these products that deliver an imaginative play experience befitting of these beloved properties.” The LEGO THE LORD OF THE RINGS collection will translate into LEGO form the epic locations, scenes and characters of Middle-earth as depicted in all three films, including The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. In late 2012, LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY will give fans of all ages a chance to build and play out the fantastical story and new characters of the legendary Middle-earth adventures depicted in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey from Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson, slated to premiere December 14, 2012. "Our collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products has delivered numerous worldwide successes in the construction toy aisle with lines like LEGO HARRY POTTER and LEGO BATMAN, introducing us to loyal audiences who love great stories, strong characters and the toys that they inspire,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing and entertainment for The LEGO Group.

“It’s particularly exciting to now be able to create sets based on the fantasy worlds and characters from THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and the two films based on THE HOBBIT, not only because we know they will foster collectability and creative play, but also because these are two properties that our fans have been asking us to create for years."Can't read the text above?Try another text or an audio CAPTCHAText in the box:What's this? The final installment of the “Extended Editions” of The Hobbit trilogy has been revealed this week. The Battle of the Five Armies will include 20 minutes of additional footage for the film itself, then will also include more than 9 hours of special features. This movie will also be rated R – this is different from the theatrical cut of the film which is rated PG-13. This new rating has been pushed to the film by the MPAA for “some violence.” As if there weren’t violence in the film in the first place. This film will be released in Blu-ray/Digital HD combo packs in both 2D and 3D starting on November 17th, 2015.

This will – very obviously – be just in time for the holidays and ready to roll for surround-sound systems of all sorts with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround. This “Extended Cut”, as it’s also called, will come presented in 1080p. Director/producer/writer Peter Jackson and co-producer/writer Philippa Boyens will be providing commentary for the full film, while the Appendices will complete The Hobbit collection besides. Inside this release is “The Appendices Parts XI and XII”, which showcase a chronological history of the filming of The Battle of the Five Armies. According to Warner Home Video, this presentation sets about “documenting the work done on set chronologically through the three shooting blocks and in the world of its digital effects.” , this release will also include “New Zealand: Home of Middle-earth – Part 3”. Above you’ll see the full-sized version of this combo pack’s cover. We’ll be crossing out fingers for a more classical book-style release like the Lord of the Rings Extended Cut trilogy in the near future.

LEGO: The Hobbit / LEGO: The Hobbit will not receive the expected downloadable expansion based on the final instalment of The Hobbit trilogy, publisher Warner Bros. confirmed, leaving its story unresolved. "The LEGO: The Hobbit video game gives LEGO and Middle-earth fans a fun, new way to experience the legendary adventures of Bilbo and company as told in the first two films of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy," the publisher said in a statement issued to GameSpot. "The game provides an excellent set-up for the concluding chapter of Peter Jackson’s film, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. There are no plans to develop DLC based on the final film of the trilogy.” Launching last April before the final movie’s cinematic release, LEGO: The Hobbit follows the storylines from the first two The Hobbit films: An Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug and ends on a cliffhanger. A press release dated April 8, 2014 reveals that Warner Bros. originally planned on concluding the game’s story with DLC based on third film, then titled There and Back Again: "Additional content based on the third film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, is planned to be available at a future release date."

We thought the adventure game immersed in the beloved Tolkien book did a great job of baking storytelling into its gameplay by incorporating major events from the first two films in bite-sized level form. We’ve reached out to Warner Bros. for more information and will update this article accordingly. Jenna Pitcher is a freelance journalist writing for IGN. You can follow her on Twitter. LEGO The Hobbit: The Video Game is a video game that was released on April 8th 2014. LEGO The Hobbit launched nearly a year ago today as an incomplete experience. The game was comprised of only The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, something that we knocked the game for in our review. LEGO The Hobbit doesn’t feel like a complete experience, and it looks like it will remain that way. Warner Bros. has cancelled The Battle of the Five Armies DLC. Though content from the third film could make a release in a LEGO The Hobbit: Complete Edition, or a LEGO Middle-Earth compilation, players who picked up the original game will not be able to complete the trilogy.
