It’s been a while since we’ve seen any digging action from LEGO and now it comes in the shape of the City series Volcano Crawler set 60122. I figured since it mining’s a little dark, so this review is coming in with just a little less light than usual. Also I’ve been travelling and I built this in a room where the electricity went out so that was a big push factor.Right away we have a female driver on a 4-wheel ATV. It’s tiny but it does it job with a chain behind that attaches to what I suppose are mines and rocks these minifigures find in any excavation site. Before we move on, I’d just like to point out that it’s just been awfully nice of LEGO to include a female figure in almost every set when they possibly can nowadays. It’s just really nice to see inclusivity perpetuated by a company that has brought so much joy and learning to my life. That our future generations will see this as simply a normal thing? That is the greatest thing. Next up – more minifigs of colour and we’re swinging.

Now we’ve got minifig #2 who’s equipped with a pickaxe for what I would presume is the worst job in the world in their team. Hope he gets enough rest! But wait up – LEGO never lets you go it alone! What’s this big hydraulic drill?Turns out the titular Volcano Crawler is a pretty nifty little beast. With wide tank tracks and a hydraulic jackhammer, checking out rocks and alien stones would be easy peasy!Of course a vehicle can’t move on its own, and sure enough it comes with the set’s third minifig. A gruff and scruffy fella I’d like to call Steve ‘The Bear’ Foreman.I think The Bear would like being called The Bear.Of course that’s not how the jackhammer moves, but that’s a little secret you’ll have to find out for yourself. Hint: that rubber band and red knob is there for a pretty sweet and functional reason (;You may be wondering – are those tracks any good?Think that settles it.At a retail price of S$49.90, it’s an easy sell, LEGO once again delivers quality, variety, and playability.

I think sometimes simplicity in construction is overlooked for sheer quantity and an obvious ‘wow’ factor, but LEGO has it down to an art. If I could build this up in almost-darkness where I was and I still had enough fun to buy a brand new set for a buddy’s kid, I think there’s just something to be said about this set.We play with LEGO because we are inquisitive. And with the 60122, there’s just a whole lot of fun while digging when you let your imagination free. The above LEGO set can be found at all LEGO Certified Stores, Toys “R” Us, plus other leading departmental and select toy stores.Visit fellow friends at the LEGO Facebook Page!Xbox One 2TB Halo Wars 2 Portable H... Now Mattel’s got the master license, and they’re putting it to good use. Mattel and Halo aren’t exactly strangers. Mattel subsidiary Mega Brands has been making Halo Mega Bloks sets for years. Plus Mattel’s Nerf rival BoomCo has been putting out Halo style dart guns recently. Those two lines will continue to put out building sets that LEGO fans turn their nose up at and guns that Nerf wielders loathe.

Where Mattel’s new lineup, featured this weekend during Toy Fair 2016 in New York City, really shines is the action figures. One of the jerks that regularly kills me in Halo 5 multiplayer matches. Where McFarlane Toys figures went for a somewhat more gritty feel, Mattel’s first figures are bright and shiny figures in sleek metal armor. The 6" figures feature mix-and-match armor pieces, swappable weapons and more than 30 points of articulation. They look much more like toys to play with than toys to display, though I’m sure they’ll still look fantastic on a shelf. Halo 6″ Figure Assortment (SRP: $19.99) –All new 6” collectible action figures series brings the Halo universe to life! More than 30 points of articulation in a highly poseable form. Each figure includes mix-and-match armor suit and 1-2 iconic, interchangeable weapons so you can customize your figure for battle. Along with the 6" figure line there’s also a slightly cheaper 12" figure assortment, with less articulation but much more presence.

Halo 12″ Figure Assortment (SRP: $9.99) – Step into the Halo action with the all new Halo 12” figure assortment. Each figure stands 12” tall and includes 15 points of articulation. Figures include one iconic, interchangeable weapon that can store on back of figure and authentic, game-inspired design based on characters from the Halo universe. They’ve even got a 12" Master Chief with a scale Warthog. Halo Warthog + 12” Master Chief (SRP: $49.99) – Step into the Halo universe with the Warthog deluxe vehicle and figure. Recreate epic missions with the UNSC’s premier ground transportation vehicle in epic scale, complete with a rotating weapon turret to fit your favorite Spartan or Covenant figures. Includes fully articulated, removable 12” Master Chief figure. “The success we’ve seen with the Halo MEGA Bloks franchise over the years laid the foundation for this partnership,” said Bonnie Ross, Microsoft Corporate Vice President and Head of 343 Industries via official announcement.

“We’re excited to work with Mattel to bring innovative, quality and, most of all, fun products to old and new Halo fans alike.” I’m pretty excited as well. Mattel is hitting Halo from all sides in 2016—BoomCo guns, Mega Bloks, Tyco remote control vehicles and figures inspired by both Halo 5: Guardians and the upcoming Halo Wars 2.
