Yes, it sounds outlandish, but that’s just what is being auctioned off by luxury marketplace James Edition. For an undisclosed sum, you get one Swiss bank vault complete with 8 million Swiss coins. The bank vault and coins are currently located in Basel, Switzerland, but the winner of this package can have the vault and cash moved anywhere in the world. The vault was built in 1912 for the former Schweizer Volksbank, and it’s still completely functional. There are 1619 deposit boxes lining the walls and you get all the keys with purchase.
The vault measures 22m long by 1.54m wide. As for those coins, 8 million of anything is a lot, but these are only 5 cent Swiss coins, known as Rappen. That still works out to around $450,000, though. The coins were used as part of an advertising campaign in Switzerland to push for a minimum guaranteed income for all people. All 15 tons of it was dumped in the streets outside a government building to make some sort of point, but then they were left with quite a lot of coins sitting there.
