Going Beyond the Brick with LEGO Batman By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest) I very rarely get excited about all the toys released along with an animated film. With How to Train Your Dragon, the variety of reptiles seen on-screen only salivated my appetite for owning a model of each because I love the designs. In the movie, LEGO Batman, I got giddy over the garage full of vehicles the caped crusader uses in his fight against crime and if only I had a couple of thousand dollars. Buying the bricks is not cheap because a lot of the money goes towards name brand recognition and licensing rights than manufacture. All reason went out the window when I saw Scutter, Batman’s mech change from robot mode to airplane. Can I hope the model does the same? I’ll have to look at YouTube videos to find out, or just buy it. I caved and bought the set, not only because I liked the personality given to it, and enjoyed how the film gave to fans a perfect examination of two properties. Not only did it examine why the man behind the cowl is what he is but also it stayed true to what the brick represents.

It’s become more than a kid’s construction toy and it helps creates a foundation to spur creativity. A Nerd (Christmas) Shoppers Guide to Victoria, BC December is upon us and holiday shopping is in the air! Twelve days remain to find that special item for the nerd in the family. Just what they want can be found with this list of where to go on (Mid and) South Vancouver Island. There is a Nanaimo entry, but its lumped under Curious Comics since they have several stores. This guide is not restricted to the season either. Everyone has a birthday, and if that collector must have more FUNKO Pop figures for that collection, going to EB Games is not the definitive place to be. Operations like Toys R’ Us and Walmart have their place for finding toys and current movie tie-in products, but let’s consider the local operations before going corporate. For any other outlet that’s not listed, please submit by commenting and this guide will be updated and made its own page, a Nerd’s Guide to Shopping on Vancouver Island, after the new year.

Coming Feb 21, 2017 is LEGO Worlds and this open world video game aims to have players build new realms for others to explore in. Gamers interested in playing this game can still find it on STEAM Early Access. It remains available for purchase at the introductory price of $16.99 and it updatable, to reflect the final version at no additional cost. LEGO Star Wars ——————— The Freemaker Adventures Video Release Date & Review Trying to recreate the magic of the original Star Wars films can sometimes be hard.

Trying to build and expand upon it is even tougher. The computer animated series Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures (originally broadcast on DisneyXD) does what very few expanded universe spin-offs can do, and that’s to engage viewers with an adventure faithful to the mythic narrative style the original trilogy represented. In this animation, the Freemakers are a family of mechanics — Rowan is the kid with the gift (a future Jedi), Kordi is the elder and overly overprotective sister and Zander is a freewheeling brother — who salvages and repairs spaceships. R0-GR (“Roger”) is this group’s servant of sorts; after being reprogrammed (he was once a B1 Battle Droid) and the adventures they share, he becomes more than a faithful companion. When this family is at work, the spirit of what the LEGO brand represents can be seen in the ships they rebuild and in what the boy can imagine up.Creativity is always in session.
