BIRMINGHAM’S National Sea Life Centre is hosting a special treat this summer… a chance to explore the secrets of the ocean and become a LEGO City Deep Sea Explorer. From June 1st the Centre will feature a LEGO City Deep Sea Experience where visitors can take part in activities to become an official LEGO City Deep Sea Explorer. Visitors will be invited to get hands-on and build a LEGO sea creature. They will also embark on a novel treasure hunt to seek out LEGO creations hidden amongst the colourful marine life in the displays. Every Sea Life visitor will receive an activity pack that includes; an official LEGO Deep Sea Explorer certificate, sticker sheet, fun scuba mask and more. The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham transports visitors to an amazing underwater world, where they get to see incredible sea life from all over the planet, from the coast of Britain and the chilly Antarctic, to the tropical waters of the Caribbean.
The aquarium is home to over 2,000 creatures, such as sharks, as well as a rescued Giant Green Sea Turtle, jellyfish, piranha, octopus and rays. She’s an icon of Coventry and now the legend of Lady Godiva has been depicted in Lego. It took a total of 65,000 of the mini plastic bricks to build the mosaic now on show on the floor of the city’s Herbert Art Gallery. The four metres square mural is based on the gallery’s famous Lady Godiva painting by Pre-Raphaelite artist John Collier from about 1898. Children were each given a grey base plate with instructions showing them how to arrange the bricks in the project which was part of the Brick Wonders Family Day. The final mosaic was then created by a charity called Fairy Bricks who buy, collect and build sets to send to hospitals. A gallery spokeswoman said: “It was fantastic to see so many families enjoying the various activities that were put on to support our new Brick Wonders exhibition and to see so many people in the exhibition itself. “
We had more that 3,000 visitors through our doors during the day which is a new record for a Herbert family event. “Thousands of people created funky Lego masks, decorated our giant Lego bricks, created stop motion animations, got messy with paint and helped to create a giant 65,000 brick mosaic of Lady Godiva.
