Pete Reid builds awesome robots (a few of them have appeared in TB comic).

He’s put his Classic Space themed Exo Suit up on CUUSOO. It needs your support! Support the Exo Suit! June 7, 2012 at 12:27 pm Looks like he was trying to build an APU from the Matrix Revolutions, but about 3/4 of the way through he gave up and just made a custom mech. It’s neat, but somewhat lacking in originality. If he’d just build a badass-looking APU, that’d be neat. If he’s build a custom mech that looks like something 100% original, that’d also be neat. This is… less neat. I guess it’s pretty okay. June 7, 2012 at 4:11 pm While you’re perfectly entitled to think it’s “meh”, I’d just like to point out that the originality thing is unfortunate, because this model is a few years old. Pete’s been building robots for years and has many imitators. It’s not based on any existing APU/mech, it’s in Pete’s own unique “greebly” style. Which you either like or not. I guess not in your case, which is fine. Basically, though, you’ve said that Star Wars (orignal trilogy) was unoriginal after watching everything else that’s tried to copy it since.

Actually I swapped the image for a better representation (the BFGs were added after people insisted it needed them). Of course, in the event it reaches 10,000 and TLG actually accept it, it may not end up looking exactly like Pete’s model, which is probably a bit too complex for a LEGO set — but you never know and it certainly wouldn’t happen if you don’t try. June 7, 2012 at 11:35 pm According to one of the original posts in the dude’s flickr: I did no research for this model. Obviously it’s a nod to Aliens and the Matrix (and WH40k Sentinels). But I didn’t look at a single reference picture till it was done. …but I was wrong, the thing’s shoulders are completely different and the clawed hands are different too. So yeah, it’s not a Matrix APU, it just looks like one because those were kind of generic mech things to begin with. February 3, 2014 at 3:43 pm Gosh, I should have updated this ages ago. This project reached 10,000 votes last year and has also passed the review stage in October and LEGO are turning it into an actual set!

The Official CUUSOO announcement Remember it probably won’t look exactly like the original, it’ll be more in line with LEGO’s own building methods (i.e. no pulling minifig hands out of arms etc). So, I think it will be the next set after the recently released Mars Rover. April 18, 2014 at 6:57 am SO, it seems like the exosuit has a logo now: And a release date somewhere in August. Looks like a set which might pop up in Legostar Galactica April 18, 2014 at 7:26 amNow to wait for August. April 18, 2014 at 10:46 am Ahh, I meant to post this, but forgot. It really does look like it’ll be awesome. Did you read the related blog article too? Looks like a set which might pop up in Legostar Galactica Or indeed, Tranquility Base! April 18, 2014 at 2:01 pm it all depends on the price point. June 27, 2014 at 6:03 pm 35 USD sounds kinda reasonable :) June 28, 2014 at 2:16 am It’s a shame the sets release won’t coincide with the white astronaut and robot promo.

June 29, 2014 at 9:49 pm June 30, 2014 at 7:07 am Because as the promo is a Classic Space astronaut with a robot, it would go well with this set. July 4, 2014 at 9:34 am More info will be posted later on the LEGO Ideas Blog. Green Classic Space suits! Green Classic Space suits! Also, according to this Brickset article, it looks like the set comes with two minifigures (male and female) and a bonus Turtle ‘Bot. Obviously the LEGO designers (Mark Stafford in this case) had to make some adjustments to Pete’s design (& Pete had input himself) to make it fit within the current LEGO parts palatte and allowable techniques, but from the picture it looks pretty faithful to the original. It is certainly recognisable as Pete’s exo suit. July 4, 2014 at 9:42 pmI can add another character to my comic! July 7, 2014 at 7:57 pm When will it be in stores? I want this set and it looks like they will only do one run of it… so “sold out” really means sold out.

July 7, 2014 at 8:48 pm The Exo Suit will be available on Shop@Home on the 1st of August. I’m not sure if it will be in shops. July 7, 2014 at 8:53 pm August 1, 2014 at 9:36 am The Exo-Suit is now available in LEGO S@H and in LEGO brand stores! If you want one (or two…) I suggest you buy it as soon as possible, because it will be selling like hot cakes if last week’s signing event is anything to go by! When they are gone, they are gone… for good. I see signed sets are already going for more than the retail price of the set on eBay — a couple are double or more the price! August 1, 2014 at 5:06 pm Whew, luckily I was able to get mine before it sold out, Otherwise I would have had to wait until September to get it!
