The new range followed a worldwide Lego competition where fans were able to submit ideas and vote for their favourite product. Lego Doctor Who will feature a “range of Doctors, companions and monsters [from] across the show’s history”, the company said. Current Doctor Peter Capaldi. Photograph: Steve Brown/BBC/Steve Brown It was tight-lipped about exactly which characters would be included – beyond the current Doctor played by Peter Capaldi – but it is surely likely to include the Doctor’s most famous foe, the Daleks. The concept was the brainchild of fan Andrew Clark, whose idea received the 10,000 votes required for the company to consider it for production. Marcus Arthur, managing director of BBC Worldwide said: “This is a really exciting deal between one of the world’s premier content companies and the world’s largest toy manufacturer.” Doctor Who is one of the BBC’s biggest money spinners, along with Top Gear, Strictly Come Dancing and its natural history programmes presented by David Attenborough.

A set inspired by Pixar movie Wall-E will also be produced as part of the latest sets to come out of the Lego Ideas initiative. They took their sweet time, but LEGO has announced that a timey-wimey, official Doctor Who playset is finally in production. The Doctor Who and Companions LEGO set will feature an awesome LEGO TARDIS, as well as many versions of the Doctor in cute LEGO minifigure form. The set will also include companions, as well as several classic Who monsters, like those space pepper-pots the Daleks, the Cybermen and showrunner Steven Moffat’s scary creation, the Weeping Angels. There are no design and release details available yet, since it’s very early days, and the product images that you see above and in the gallery below are not the final ones, but the pics Andrew Clark submitted to LEGO.Also going into production will be a WALL-E set, based on Disney’s popular animated movie. This particular submission was made by one of the film’s crew members, with the prototype having interestingly been developed during production.

Here’s what Emma Owen, U.K. spokesperson for LEGO Ideas, had to say:“We’re extremely excited to announce that a Doctor Who and a WALL-E set will be released as our next Lego Ideas fan based sets, congratulations to the designers Andrew Clark and [WALL-E] Angus MacLane! After receiving over 10,000 votes from the online community and having gone through rigorous toy testing from our expert panel, these awesome sets are on track to be on shelves later this year. The final set designs, pricing and availability are being worked out as we speak, so watch this space for the final details!”Have a look at the video announcement below:Are you happy the see Doctor Who finally getting a LEGO playset?(via Comic Book and Daily Mail)Doctor Who LEGO Set to Send Time Lord to LEGO Land Oh, what the Doctor would do with LEGO bricks. The LEGO Group announced last week that they're working a new LEGO set based on the BBC series Doctor Who. Set for release by the end of 2015, the set will reportedly feature several of the Doctors, companions as well as "monsters" from the long-running sci-fi drama series.

LEGO Group made the announcement in this video: The idea for the set originated from an idea by Doctor Who fan Andrew Clark which LEGO Group then put up for a fan-vote, garnering over 10,000 votes from fans online. LEGO Group says that the set will be based on Clark's recommendations, but didn't reveal the full extent of what the set would contain. That being said, the press releases names the current Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, and his companion as played by Jenna Coleman, so it's assumable those two characters are confirmed as having LEGO figures. Follow us @Spacedotcom, Facebook and Google+.Back in July, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released a new trailer for their video game Lego Dimensions, which brings a slew of different franchises together in one LEGO universe. While most of these properties are controlled by Warner Bros., the trailer did feature an interesting inclusion, the Time Lord himself, Doctor Who. It turns out the good doctor may be continuing his LEGO adventures on the big screen in The Lego Movie Sequel, according to director Rob Schrab. The filmmaker recently appeared on Dan Harmon's Harmontown podcast, where he teased that Warner Bros. is working out a deal for Doctor Who to appear in the sequel.

Unfortunately, the filmmaker wouldn't divulge any further details, including whether or not the current Time Lord, Peter Capaldi, will return to provide his voice for The Lego Movie 2. Warner Bros. has set a May 25, 2018 release date for the animated movie, so there is still plenty of time for all of the details to be worked out. It's worth noting that Peter Capaldi did provide his voice for the Lego Dimensions video game, where fans can actually play as the good Doctor. The game also features the first 11 Doctors as well, but they are only accessible in the game's Adventure, or open-world mode. The game used archived sound for the first 11 Doctors, and since Peter Capaldi lent his voice to the game, one could assume he would do so again for The Lego Movie Sequel. If a deal is finalized, it would be the first time any version of Doctor Who has appeared on the big screen since a series of movies in the 1960s starring Doctor Who, which are not considered part of the franchise's canon. As of now, no voice cast members or characters have been confirmed for The Lego Movie Sequel.
