Session 1: July 10 – 14 Session 2: July 17 – 21 Session 3: July 24 – 28 Session 4: July 11 – August 4 Cost: $415 (Save $15 before February 15!) 2 Camps per Week July 10 – 14 ages 6 – 8 Jedi Builders and Coders ages 8 – 11 July 17 – 21 ages 7 – 9 ages 10 – 13 July 24 – 28 Robot Adventures & Zoo Zanimals ages 5 – 7 July 31 – August 4 Girls STEAM Tech Camp Blockbuster Builds: Motorized Vehicles and Mechanical F/X Made with LEGO Elements & K’NEX ~ Register 9:00 am – 3:30 pm Join us for a week of building magic as we design vehicles for our favorite movie and TV characters using LEGO elements. We’ll create motorized versions of the Minion mobile, Scooby-doo‘s Mystery Machine, the Ghostbuster Ecto-1, the Optimus Prime Transformer, and Luke’s X-wing fighter from Star Wars.

You’ll learn all about vehicle design, wheels and axles, gears, and how to add motors to LEGO creations. Then, in the afternoon, we’ll use the K’NEX construction system to build structures and mechanical f/x to accompany our vehicles. Design a haunted house complete with a spinning “ghost” for the Ghostbusters to encounter. Build a motorized Tie-fighter or the Death Star to challenge Luke. Use your creativity and learn building techniques so that you can design anything that you dream up! (More details on the TechKnowHow website.) Jedi Builders & Coders: Star Wars Themed LEGO Robotics and Game Development ~ Register In a galaxy not so far away, students design motorized robotic creatures and vehicles from the Star Wars movies using LEGO® components. We’ll use motors along with WeDo 2.0 motion and tilt sensors to bring our creations to life! Design an AT-AT walker with laser sounds, a remote-control X-wing, a moving droid and more. Control many builds with WeDo robotics software, and others with a remote.

Plus, build your own Star Wars-themed creations. In the afternoon, students design two fun space adventure computer games while learning coding fundamentals with Scratch® software. You’ll learn the fundamentals of computer science, from loops to if/else statements, logical operators, and variables using Scratch®’s code blocks. (More details on the TechKnowHow website.) Minecrafter’s Lab: LEGO Robotics and Minecraft Creative Building ~ Register Learn about robotics as you create projects from Minecraft using LEGO components. You’ll make a shelter with controllable gadgets, a mine with a working pulley system, a launcher to ward off creepers, a cave with a motorized elevator, and other Minecrafty designs! Operate them all with programs that you create with WeDo and Scratch software. Then, in the afternoon, explore Minecraft in Creative Mode, building projects which teach how to design and power machines, use physics to make working contraptions, make interactive entertainment such as games and dance floors, build traps, construct architecture, create sustainable farms and more.

You’ll get some new building and strategy knowledge, and do plenty of creative design and engineering! Radical Robots: LEGO EV3s and Sphero SPRK ~ Register 9:00 – 3:30 pm Design, build, and program robots that can interact with you, perform complex tasks, and respond to changes in the environment. First, learn engineering techniques as we build programmable LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 robots using motors, sensors, gears, and other technical components. Then, use robotics software to create and run programs which control the robots on missions. Plus, team up to develop optimal engineering and programming solutions for EV3 missions patterned after First Lego League (FLL) competitions. Each day, we’ll also work in teams to program the Sphero SPRK, the robotic ball with lights, motors and a gyroscope. With the use of Sphero’s Lightning Lab app, students will program their Sphero SPRK to complete missions, make light and sound shows, obtain data from scientific activities, and play games.

It’s a chance to discover how real-world robotics works through playful projects. Robot Adventures & Zoo Zanimals ~ Register Explore robotics and engineering with the LEGO® Spybotics® smart module and Power Functions sets. Build an upright robot, a Mars rover, a speedy sports car, and lots of fun creatures. All use motors and gears to move and many you control with a remote, maneuvering around obstacles and playing games and missions. You’ll also learn about coding as you give instructions to a programmable Robot Mouse® by pressing its directional movement buttons. Play soccer and help our mousebot get through mazes! Robot Mouse is a hands-on, team-oriented programming activity which builds coding, logical thinking, sequencing, estimation, and problem solving skills. By the end of the week, students will have gained knowledge in building and operating both remote-control and programmable robots while having tons of fun! PokeMania: Game Design and Robotic LEGO Creatures ~ Register

In the morning, explore robotics as you build Pokémon®-style characters with LEGO® components and control them with programs that you make with WeDo® and Scratch® software. Design Pikachu, Psyduck, Froakie (the frog), Ponyta (the horse), Squirtle (the turtle), Yanma (the dragonfly), and Darmanitan (the gorilla). You’ll use motors along with motion and tilt sensors to move the creatures. Plus, design and build a Pokémon of your choice or create a brand new creature. In the afternoon, design two fun Pokémon®-themed computer games while learning coding fundamentals with Scratch® software. Game features include movement for the trainers, Pokémon® appearing and disappearing, pokéballs and scoring and music. As you create your game, you will learn the fundamentals of computer science by using Scratch®’s code blocks, from loops to if/else statements, logical operators, and variables. Girls STEAM Tech Camp ~ Register This camp offers a workshop environment where girls can explore, tinker, dream, and create in a place of their own.

Led by female instructors, girls in this Tech Camp will build robots, create a computer game, and make electronic crafts. In the morning, girls will explore robotics as they build animals and vehicles with LEGO® components and control them with programs they design using WeDo® and Scratch® software. Girls will use and learn about motors, motion and tilt sensors, and robotics programming. In the afternoon, girls will make a story for a game world and use Scratch drag-and-drop software to turn their ideas into an interactive computer game. Scratch teaches the fundamentals of computer science through code blocks, from loops to if/else statements, logical operators, and variables. Campers will also learn about circuits through hands-on building with Tenka Lab’s Circuit Cubes. We’ll finish the week with a take-home DIY circuit craft project, which uses LEDs and craft supplies. Please email questions to Aurora Summer Camps Director, Josh Johnson or you can reach him by phone at (510) 428-2606 ext 208.
