The Walking Dead – the best zombie game in the charts this week Thanks to the release of the new PlayStation and Xbox consoles this autumn there isn’t really a traditional summer games drought this year, but May is the closest it gets. As ever Chart-Track doesn’t release sales figures, but given the lack of movement in the chart it’s pretty obvious that sales in general are very low at the moment. That’s no more obvious than in the fact that Black Ops II has climbed as high as number two this week, despite falling out of the top 10 for the first time two weeks ago. Helped by retailer promotions the game saw a 60 per cent boost in sales and almost took the top spot. It didn’t make it though and so Dead Island: Riptide earned its third week at number one, one week more than its predecessor.
Although not a hit with reviewers the other zombie game in the top 10 this week is right at the other end of the critical scale, with the award-wining The Walking Dead making it to number nine in the all formats chart. Considering the new release is just a compilation of the downloadable games released last year that’s not bad going, although again the general state of the chart may be distorting the level of its success. Persona 4 Arena is certainly not the sort of game you’d expect to be riding high in the charts but the excellent 2D fighter made it as high as number 11 in the all formats chart. So maybe there is something to be said for game droughts after all. This Friday is a little busier, with Metro: Last Light (360/PS3/PC) and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates To Infinity (3DS) both likely to get into the top 10 – especially as it is now.
