Made up of 215,158 bricks, the caravan features electricity and running water. Inside it has, among others, a fridge, gas hob and sofa all made of Lego.On Tuesday it broke the Guinness world record for the largest Lego camper van.Dan Connolly, from sponsors of the event Freedom to Go, said: “We built it two years ago. It took two weeks to make, more than 1,000 man hours. It has a metal caravan base and then is Lego all the way up with some glue to help with the structure.”All the way across in hall one was Lunar’s designer camper van, a collaboration project with fashion retailer Joules. The caravan has a special design on its white front featuring butterflies, flowers and birds.Lea Lawrence, the marketing manager at Lunar, said: “This is certain to become a talking point on any campsite.”But of course the show was more than just quirky caravans, it had everything from the tents you see at popular musical festivals to specced out holiday homes.People were even looking at caravans, of which there are more than 550,000 in the UK, for every day use, rather than for holidays.
One retailer, Barefoot Caravans, has had requests to adapt their small pod like caravan for business use to transform it into things such as offices and nail salons.One of those browsing the show on Friday was 75-year-old Terrence Foster from Weeping Cross, Stafford.Mr Foster, who is retired, believes in the current market now is a good time to buy a holiday home as an investment.He said: “A lot of people still want to holiday in England.”Saturday saw, amongst others, a cookery demonstration with banker turned baker Selasi Gbormittah, star of the Great British Bake Off, and a tips and advice session with motorhome expert Dave Hurrell.And on Sunday Olympic gold medalist and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here contestant Sam Quek will be holding two Q&A sessions.This authentic camper van is a replica of the classic Volkswagen Camper Van from 1962.
