Although we usually try to keep our writing on The Brothers Brick accessible to everyone, LEGO jargon inevitably sneaks in. This page works like a dictionary and lists the LEGO terms you’re most likely to encounter here on The Brothers Brick, and is not intended to be exhaustive.Tell all your friends!Make your next pinewood derby car with LEGO blocks! This is an official pinewood derby block with LEGO plates glued on top. You can use your own LEGO pieces to make a car or use our LEGO kits. This car is legal in most races but you should check your local rules before ordering. Includes one official pinewood derby block that has been cut down and shaped to fit the LEGO plates that are glued to the top. Standard pinewood derby block dimensions and axle slots. Wheels and axles are not included Assembly instructions are not included with our LEGO Kits but you can download or print pictures of all LEGO cars here. Each LEGO kit contains approximately 70 pieces.




Each piece is selected to give a wide range of possible car designs. The number and type of pieces vary slightly with each kit depending on availability of the pieces. Add your own pieces for even more variety. Example of a pinewood derby car made from the blue LEGO kit Blue LEGO Car Kit This kit contains mostly blue pieces with a few black pieces and a gray curved piece that can be used as a cockpit/windshield. Block and wheels not included Example of a car made from the black/gray LEGO kit Black/Gray LEGO Car Kit This kit contains a mix of black and gray pieces with a dark red curved piece that can be used as a cockpit/windshield. Example of a car made from the gray LEGO kit Gray LEGO Car Kit This kit contains mostly gray pieces with a few black pieces and a black curved piece that can be used as a cockpit/windshield. Example of a car made from the brown/yellow LEGO kit Brown/Yellow LEGO Car Kit This kit contains mostly brown pieces with a few white pieces and a gray curved piece that can be used as a cockpit/windshield.

Example of a car made from the yellow LEGO Kit Yellow LEGO Car Kit This kit contains mostly yellow pieces with a few brown pieces and a brown curved piece that can be used as a cockpit/windshield. Example one pound of bulk parts Wheels and frame are not included Same parts that are in the above kits but sold by the pound. Each pound contains approximately 350 pieces in a variety of colors. About 5 cars can be built with each bulk kit.. Example of the windshield kit and the orange/black car kit. This kit contains a windshield and steering wheel. Use your own LEGO figure for a driver. Example of the engine kit and the green/yellow car kit. This kit contains one engine and two grills/vents. Stock Wheels and Axles If you are holding your own races then these wheels and axles are an economical alternative to the official pinewood derby wheels and axles. They are the same dimensions as the official BSA wheels and axles but these high quality components don't require as much preparation. Just file the crimp marks off of the axle head and you are all set. If you need official BSA wheels, they are available here. (4 wheels and axles per set)




A LEGO pinewood derby car will need about 2 oz of additional weight to bring the car up to the 5 oz limit. An easy way to add weight is to create a pocket near the rear of the car with the LEGO pieces then fill the pocket with weights. Cover the pocket with more LEGO pieces.  You can also add weights to the bottom of the block. Pinewood Pro™ - PRO Brick Zinc Weights Each brick is .44 oz Snaps onto any standard LEGO part Each cube is 1/4" Total weight: 1 oz. Each plate is 1/2 oz and screws onto the bottom of the car. The weight is 1 oz and can be glued to the bottom of the car. Sections can be broken off to adjust the weight. download or print pictures of all LEGO cars on this page here.
