NewsYahoo Movies UK16 January 2017Warner Bros’ LEGO movie franchise, about to reach its second feature with the upcoming ‘LEGO Batman Movie,’ continues to break new ground bringing DC comics characters to the big screen.Amongst its many notable strengths, 2014’s ‘The LEGO Movie’ featured the first film appearance ever by Wonder Woman. Yes, really, voice actress Cobie Smulders beat ‘Batman V Superman’s Gal Gadot to the punch by over two years. And now, ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ will introduce another much-loved super-heroine we’ve yet to see in live action: Batgirl, who gets an introduction in the new TV spot below. Okay, this isn’t technically Batgirl’s big screen debut, as she was also in 2016 animated movie ‘Batman: The Killing Joke,’ but that only got a very limited theatrical release so perhaps we don’t have to count it. Oh well, what difference does it really make? Either way, ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ boasts a full Bat-tastic ensemble we can’t expect to see in live action for a while, if ever again.

Alongside Will Arnett, who reprises his ‘The LEGO Movie’ role as the very, very Dark Knight, we have Rosario Dawson as Barbara Gordon – the new Police Commissioner of Gotham City in this version of events, who dons a costume to fight alongside Batman (or, as she suggests calling him in the clip above, Batboy).Filling out that core masked trio is Michael Cera as the voice of Dick Grayson/Robin, whilst Zach Galifianakis voices The Joker, and Ralph Fiennes voices Alfred. And do we all remember the last time Batman, Robin and Batgirl shared the screen? That’s right – 1997’s ‘Batman and Robin.’ Even 20 years on, a whole lot of fans are still sore about that one. But if ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ manages to be even half as smart, funny and exciting as ‘The LEGO Movie’ was, surely even the most jaded Batfan will be able to dismiss all memories of Joel Schumacher’s day-glo disaster.‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ opens in UK cinemas on 10 February.Read More: 6 long-delayed action sequels that were worth the wait 9 films John Carpenter almost directed Will Dwayne ‘Franchise Viagra’ Johnson save DC?

The Best Comic Book Movie News From Around The Web Warner Bros. released a new trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie tonight. It features more hilarious interactions between Batman and The Joker, as well as introduces more villain cameos. Check it out in the video above! The LEGO Batman Movie hits theaters on February 10, 2017. Here’s the official synopsis: In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.Head over to the forums to discuss more. Don't be a jerk!Photo Credit: Universal Pictures / Warner Bros. / Lionsgate This was one of the few weekends at the movies when you could either relive your childhood or take adulthood up a notch.

Showing that there can be some justice at the box office, "The Lego Batman Movie" took the No.1 spot in an exceptionally crowded box office weekend. The two-hour toy commercial brought in an estimated $56 million domestically. What's even more exciting is DC Comics finally managed to make a Batman movie that people don't hate."It's a frenetic, unhinged celebration of all things Batman," IGN's Daniel Krupa said. "The Lego Batman Movie" carries a rock solid 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but at some point DC is going to have to figure out how to get similar praise for its live-action films. On the opposite end of the spectrum in just about every way is "Fifty Shades Darker," which earned an estimated $47 million, proving that terrible popular books make popular terrible movies.Although our favorite kinky couple couldn't keep up with the original "Fifty Shades of Grey" debut, they still managed the best worldwide debut of 2017. If American audiences are growing tired of Anastasia Steele and Mr. Grey, foreign audiences are just getting strapped in. "Fifty Shades Darker" defeated all challengers overseas, bringing in a whopping $100 million there this weekend.

All the while making critics squirm."we're gonna make it the soap. The silly goofy soap," What the Flick's Christy Lemire said."There are a lot of really unintentionally funny moments here," Rotten Tomatoes' Matt Atchity said.SEE MORE: Check Out The Trailer For 'Bill Nye Saves The World'And last but not least, guns, adrenaline and Keanu Reeves. "John Wick: Chapter 2" managed a $30 million debut, nearly doubling the box office debut of the original "John Wick" film. What's equally surprising is "John Wick: Chapter 2" also has better reviews than the original. And this one didn't even have to kill an innocent dog to do it.As for next week, Bostonian Matt Damon saves China in "The Great Wall." Although the idea seems ludicrous, no film surprised me more in the last few years than The LEGO Movie. The film that everyone believed would be nothing but a cynical cash grab ended up being a huge surprise and an utterly delightful film. The LEGO Batman Movie doesn’t have the creative geniuses of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the film does seem to have the same cheeky, irreverent humor.

A new extended TV spot has been revealed for the film, which you can check out below: I’m still not completely sure this film is necessary, but the film did make me laugh and I’m enjoying how the film is exploring the DC Universe. Many, myself included, have been disappointed by how Warner Bros has been taking the DC Universe, and it’s fun to see a lighter and more self aware take on these characters. Batman has seen more films than any other superhero, and it’s cool to see a different take on the character. Will Arnett is still perfect in my mind as Batman, and his humor completely fits the tone of what the film is going for. The new TV spot gives us an extended look at Zack Galifinakis’s Joker, who I think looks to be the scene stealer of the film. The film definitely seems to be including a lot more villains, so it should be interesting to see a more humorous take on Batman’s Rogue Gallery. What do you think Schmoeville? Will you be checking this film out?
