LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham / Writer and director Kevin Smith will be in the LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, but he won't be voicing a character from the DC or LEGO universe. Instead, Kevin Smith will be Kevin Smith: Mini Figure. Smith will be on the LEGO Batman panel at the upcoming New York City Comicon on October 11 to talk about his role in the game, among other LEGO Batman topics. If you are into comics culture at all, you're probably familiar with Smith, who has lent his writing talents to such series as Marvel's Daredevil and Spiderman comics, as well as DC properties like Green Arrow and a Batman. It seems only natural, then, that the producer of Comic Book Men would appear in a comic book themed game. Given that his initial thrust into the spotlight was through his comedic films, a game series that combines both comedy and comics, along with a healthy dose of fan service for a myriad of different fandoms, the LEGO Batman series is a good fit. The game, which is coming out November 11, will feature over 150 characters from the DC universe, including Justice League members, DC-based LEGO big figures like Killer Croc, and now actor/director/writer/superfan Kevin Smith.

Today at NYCC’s LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham panel, DLC was announced that will bring the world of Arrow into the game. The so-called “Arrow Pack” won’t only include Oliver Queen; it’ll also include Diggle, Felicity Smoak, Helena Bertinelli (Huntress), Slade Wilson, Roy Harper, Sarah Lance (Black Canary), and Malcom Merlyn. Additionally, it’ll include a whole level exclusive to the DLC pack, as well as some brand-new vehicles. LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham launches in exactly a month from today, on November 11th, 2014. While the kids can enjoy the split screen Lego action, parents will often appreciate the fan service to a variety of franchises.

Mums and dads who grew up reading DC Comics will appreciate the care and attention in the latest Lego game, Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. Although it’s titles as a Batman game this is really an exscuse to bring in an impressive 150 playable DC characters. These range from the well known to the the obscure and even the downright preposterous (Polka-Dot Man?). The character list also doesn’t stop there with real life personalities getting a look in as well. Talk show host Conan O’Brien has recently added to the roster along with comedian Kevin Smith. This year the game continues the story from Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. Brainiac is abusing the powers of the Rings from the Lantern Corps to shrink planets to pocket size. Batman and the Justice League pursuit the Legion of Doom into the far reaches of space to stop them. As well as new characters Lego Batman 3 Beyond Gotham adds new suits and abilities to key characters in the game, with many bespoke transformations and attacks granted to particular DC heroes.

Judging from our PEGI age grouped charts each week, it will be another popular title. With the next 30 characters revealed for the game we took a look at what was in store for family players. Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is released on Nov 14th in the UK and will be available for Mac, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. UPDATE (Nov 3, 2016): Following an original announcement for a release on Wednesday, then a mysterious retraction of said announcement…WB just announced the trailer is coming Friday. Expect it just under 24 hours from now (3pm GMT/8am PT/11am ET)…or try your luck at catching it on the big screen tonight (with Doctor Strange and/or Trolls). New #LEGOBatmanMovie trailer tomorrow. — LEGO Batman (@LEGOBatmanMovie) November 3, 2016 While everyone is busy trying to get Ben Affleck to say something about his upcoming Batman film (currently titled The Batman), Warner Bros. are currently preparing for the return of the big screen’s other, more animated, Dark Knight. Alberta Film Ratings have rated a new full trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie last night, coming after two hilarious teasers that arrived with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice back in March and an extended trailer at San Diego Comic-Con in late July.

We are expecting the trailer to arrive online in the next week or so, in time for the U.S. release of Marvel’s Doctor Strange on November 4. Given The LEGO Batman Movie is now an IMAX release, a new trailer in front of an IMAX release like Doctor Strange makes a lot of sense; it has also been a few months after we got the SDCC trailer, so it’s about time for a new look. In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up. With Will Arnett reprising his The LEGO Movie voice role as Batman/Bruce Wayne, and also featuring the voices of Michael Cera as Robin, Zach Galifianakis as the Joker, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, The LEGO Batman Movie arrives in theatres and IMAX February 10, 2017.
