Plates are very helpful and I wish they had a better variety of colors.I have a tough time giving most Lego items five stars but that's mainly based on "bang for the buck". All Lego brand items tend to be over priced in my opinion. That being said they are still great fun. Building plates are not essential for all builders but they can be very helpful especially if you want to create larger Lego scenes. This green plate is obviously colored to be a lawn or nature type base and that will work for many projects.
These also come in blue LEGO Blue Building Plate (10" x 10"). Its a shame they don't come in other colors especially tan, grey, brown or other natural colors. There is a larger 15' x 15' grey plate available but it's about three times the price of the 10" x 10" and therefore not as good a valueLEGO Bricks & More Building Plate 628.The plate itself is rather thin but its sturdy enough for its intended use. You can definitely use multiple plates together as long as you have a flat surface. You could glue a bunch of these together on a table top or other flat surface if you wanted to make a larger, firmer surface. I glued four of these onto the top of a child's wooden table which is now a great Lego table. I may experiment with Velcro next time so I can change individual plates. Drill, Wood Glue, Crazy Glue, Screws, Ruler, Marker, Follow assembly instructions of the table and magnetic strip then attach the towel rod with screws. I recommend using wood glue on both the back of the LEGO base plates and table. It’s very important NOT to push the plates together to dry. For Accurate spacing, use blocks to connect the plates. Let glue dry over night. Attach the IKEA plastic handles to Large White Boxes with Crazy Glue. Be sure to measure so that each handle is in same place on all bins. And now, at last, I reveal the super secret project that I actually already mentioned, back when I posted about August and Milo’s room. It’s also a really simple project, both in theory and in execution, so I hope no one feels too let down by all my “super secret” build up. I came across the idea to make a lego table out of Ikea Trofast shelves awhile back on SunScholars blog: Sun Scholars DIY Lego Table We picked up the shelf and bins (I wanted all green, but they didn’t have green for the bottom ones, so we went with white instead) at Ikea last Sunday. Then I looked around online to find the best combination of baseplates. The best deal and the best fit for the single shelf was 2 of the extra large gray plates (affiliate link). Each one measures 15 by 15 inches, and the shelf is around 17 by 36, I believe, so two of them would fit nicely with just a few extra inches. So, finally, I went with heavy duty double sided tape (affiliate link). This is what Sun Scholars used, but she said it was because they wanted something less permanent and suggested that glue would probably be better if that wasn’t a concern.
