With so many cars on the road we wondered how many cars in LEGOs there were. It starts as a Jeep-like vehicle with two seats, off-roading capability, and circular headlights flanking a grille. There are tow hooks and high-fenders that won’t hit rocks, it even comes with doors you can remove in good weather. However, it also turns into a helicopter and a watercraft (hovercraft?). Obviously not your standard 2016 Jeep Wrangler. There are other Creator cars, though, from the young in mind to the young at heart. The LEGO Creator Expert series includes a replica LEGO Ferrari F40 including pop-up headlights and a rear-vented hatch which opens revealing a miniature twin-turbocharged, 90-degree V8. The doors open to show an interior Ferrari would be proud to have in its lineup. And, if that isn’t enough, you can even build your own mini LEGO MINI Cooper. The replica of the original MINI comes with green and white exterior coloring, a tan interior, picnic blanket and filled basket, and a moving gearshift and handbrake.
Watching your little gear head play with these toys will seriously melt your heart. Because having 2,700-plus pieces is too complicated. Instead, we’ll take the 168-piece McLaren P1. This set comes with a minifigure to drive your LEGO McLaren around your real or imaginary track. It comes with cones, a light bar, and interchangeable wheels. For when you’re racing your LEGOs McLaren, you’ll need the top of the line LEGOs Porsche 918 Spyder, complete with finish line driver, but only one wrench with which to change your interchangeable wheel trims (you don’t really need the wrench for that). Don’t forget your Audi R8 LMS or R18 E-Tron. Where would you be without your hyper-LEGO-car, the LaFerrari or Ferrari 458 Italia? Without a LEGO LaFerrari or 458 Italia, that’s where. Your minifigure will slip into the car by the removable windscreen, ready for the included stop light to hit green. Oh, and you’ll be swimming in interchangeable wheels and tiny wrenches.
For those who don’t want quite so much speed in their LEGOs, there’s the Ford Mustang GT. This kit comes complete with minifigure, lap time board, and more interchangeable wheels to get lost. It also sports an authentic Ford pony logo and headlight stickers. Go head to head with the LEGO Chevrolet Stingray, or race on the LEGO Camaro Drag Strip kits, or off-roading with your Ford Raptor and Model A Set, or face-off F1 style with Ferrari F1 trick and F14 or the McLaren F1 pit stop… It really keeps going. The LEGO Speed Champions Series includes many major manufacturers and even has a video game to keep your high-revving kid occupied. The newest addition to LEGOs is the Technic kits which actually have power motors and function. While the Technic Helicopter can’t fly, all the moving parts work. Well, the LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS is made in that same geeky-fashion of childlike wonder. The lead LEGO Designer for the Technic Porsche, Uwe Wabra, wanted to incorporate as much of the technical aspects of the real GT3 RS, including the hood and roof shapes, the air intakes, and the low and sloping profile of the car.
While creating a working replica of the steering and the suspension were already difficult tasks, the LEGO Porsche 911 GT3 RS team also created a functioning paddle-shift PDK system.
