They work with the LEGO Group to produce community supported sets. If an idea submitted to the website gains 10,000 (originally 1,000) supporters, it stands a chance of being produced as an official LEGO product.

CUUSOO and LEGO began working together in 2008 and the scheme was launched worldwide on April 23, 2011. Originally, it was based solely in Japan, and LEGO CUUSOO projects required only 1,000 supports to be considered for production. If their creation receives 10,000 supporters, it will be reviewed by the LEGO Group for a chance to be made into an official LEGO product. On April 30 2014, CUUSOO was replaced by LEGO Ideas. When LEGO Ideas was known as CUUSOO, users had to be 13 years or older to create an account, but 18 years or older to submit a project. Since April 30 2014, users still have to be 13 years or older to create an account, but now all users have the chance to submit a project. If the project creator is under 18, they require parental permission for their project to be produced if it passes the review.Rovio is trying something different with its new Angry Birds title, Angry Birds Action! The free-to-play mobile game is ditching the 2D model, instead opting for a pinball-inspired 3D game that twists around some familiar Angry Birds mechanics.

It's also adding in a large amount of augmented reality content, as well as an extra incentive to have the game and see The Angry Birds Movie. Acting as a prequel to the upcoming animated film release and borrowing its animation style, Action! features the four main characters of that movie -- Red, Chuck, Bomb and Terence -- progressing through various levels to try to gather eggs while being waylaid by enemy pigs (who are sometimes in disguise as birds). Instead of charging up your bird characters by pulling back a slingshot, here you use your finger to aim your character in the direction you want to send it, trying to beat the level in as few tries as possible. Because the introduction of the slingshot plays a key role in The Angry Birds Movie, Rovio VP of Games Miika Tams explained that Angry Birds Action! couldn't introduce it as a gameplay mechanic. Beyond that, the actual game's connection to the movie is pretty minimal. There aren't cinematic scenes or much story, and you don't see the various characters interact with one another as you unlock them (which makes sense for continuity, because they're supposed to meet for the first time in the film).

It's there that simplicity makes the most sense for Angry Birds Action! It progresses with the familiar pattern of many similar puzzle-solving mobile games; the first few levels start out easy, and at Level 35 the difficult ramps up significantly. Along the way you can acquire new characters with their own abilities (Chuck is so fast he can stop time, Terence destroys everything in his path because he's so big, Bomb explodes, etc.) and find power-ups and mystery boxes. Tams said the idea was to give users as fast and seamless an experience as possible, which tends to be a good recipe for success with mobile games. Playing through the early levels, it's easy to see that Angry Birds Action! is as simple in conceit and addictive as its needs to be. The controls are intuitive and 3D gameplay is rewarding; like earning that epic chain reaction in Bejeweled or Candy Crush, it's a thrill to see your bird of choice knocking around the environment, destroying things in its path and earning coins and rewards.

Where Angry Birds Action! loses its simplicity is with the addition of AR code functionality, or "BirdCodes." Rovio teamed with an array of partners like McDonalds, H&M, Lego, Pez and Toys"R"Us to distribute 1 billion (!) of these Angry Birds AR codes. They'll be included in locations like on movie posters, on instruction sheets for Angry Birds Movie Lego sets and on McDonalds packaging, and scanning one with the game will launch one of two dozen augmented reality minigames. As someone who hasn't been especially sold on augmented reality as an enhancement for mobile gameplay, the difficulty Tams had with showing off the Lego augmented reality Egg Rescue game -- which popped up a 3D ship off the instruction page and the user had to circle around it to try to collect all the hidden eggs -- didn't inspire much confidence that these would be especially easy to use. There did sound like some interesting integration, like how Rovio was inspired by the games McDonalds would include on their tray liners and decided the McDonalds augmented reality game would be a top-down whack-a-pig experience.

There also was an experience that puts you inside Matilda's hut (a main set in the movie) and take selfies with the four main bird characters. Tams said the idea was for the additional Angry Birds Action! augmented reality functionality is meant to not be a gimmick but encourage people to explore the many secrets of the game on their own. That will depend on the user's play style; though the core game is the pinball puzzle, there is a large amount of content and different gameplay experiences being put into the BirdCodes experience. Similarly, power-ups won't be made available for purchase initially, and will only be earned through playing the AR games. Whether that is viewed as a frustration or a challenge remains to be seen. Rovio is putting the emphasis on Angry Birds Action! being a companion piece and an incentive for people to see The Angry Birds Movie as well. The only way to see the film's post-credits scene is by having the game downloaded on your phone; when the credits start rolling, a signal will alert the phone to your presence at the theater and will pull up the bonus scene.
