Shooting an AK-47 underwater at 27,450 frames per second 07.28.2013 :: 11:02AM EST @jplafke About one month ago, YouTube series Smarter Every Day not only showed us what it was like to shoot an AK-47 underwater, but also showed us that the gun fires faster while underwater. Though one might assume the water would either slow the firing down or prevent it completely, it turned out that the water creates a large amount of pressure in the chamber, which in turn put more force on the gun’s piston. Now, Smarter Every Day brings us part two of the series, wherein series host Destin films the shot at 27,450 frames per second, as well as teaches us all about cavitation. After the gun fires, the bullet tears through the water, leaving a pocket of air in its wake. As seen in the super slow motion, the water quickly fill back into the pocket, and kind of bounces when the sides hit each other, creating oscillation. Thanks to the two different levels of pressure — the bubble’s expansion and the water it’s expanding against — the bubble expands and contracts until there’s no more kinetic energy left from the pressure.

The pockets of air that come out of the gun upon firing are actually three different pockets. The fuzzy one is caused by the gunpowder shooting out of the gun, one is a water jet, and the smooth one is caused by the bullet’s vapor trail (all of which can be seen at around the 8:50 mark in the above video). If you’re into amusing science that sometimes involve big guns, head on over to the Smarter Every Day YouTube channel and be entertained while learning something. subscribe to our newsletter: Subscribing to a newsletter indicates your consent to our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Weapon Camo: DooM's AK-47 Made by: Gawr ----- Version 1.0Among the loot Broward Sheriff’s Office says it discovered upon busting a home-robbing quartet last week: jewelry, bullets and an AK-47.That’ll get you a few charges. The foursome’s 20-year-old Sunrise duo, Boris Agenor and Kevin Jerome, each face charges of armed burglary, grand theft of valuables between $300 and $5,000 and resisting an officer/obstruction of justice. Another 20-year-old, Rijkard Desrosiers of Lauderdale Lakes, faces the same charges minus the resisting an officer charge. Olivier Jean Baptiste, 19, from Sunrise got arrested on the same three charges as Agenor and Jerome with another charge of unarmed burglary.Agenor’s past contains a guilty plea to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (given 144 days, time served) from last year. In addition to this case, he has a case from May that includes charges of home burglary; aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest with violence. The other three haven’t been hit with anything harder than a speeding ticket.

Last Thursday, while investigating home burglaries, BSO’s Burglary Apprehension Team teamed up with special units out of Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Coral Springs Police Department and Fort Lauderdale Police Department to watch what the arrest report terms a “suspicious vehicle” — as described by BSO, a black Toyota Corolla with four black males. The car “seemingly cased a residential neighborhood in east Fort Lauderdale before parking in the driveway of a house in the 1600 block of Northeast 18th Street.According to BSO deputies, they watched all but Desrosiers enter the house. When Jerome emerged with his pillow case full of loot, police said, he jumped in the rear driver’s seat. Police moved in for the pickups. Agenor and Jean Baptiste ran, but were quickly captured.
