In 1962, Ramesh Pai founded Karnataka Consumer Products Limited, the predecessor of Kurlon, after learning about the use of rubberized coconut-coir fiber in high-end car seats. He rightly assumed that with India being one of the world’s top coconut producers, he will have an abundance of coconut husk sources – truly, a business opportunity just waiting to be grabbed.
After bringing in Australian technology to transform coconut fiber into rope, he started developing mattresses, cushions and mats. Today, Kurlon is among India’s most notable manufacturers of bedding products with over 125 mattress models made in 9 facilities across Karnataka, Orissa, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. Its products are distributed and sold in over 7,000 dealership stores and 70 branches and stock points across India. Kurlon is also a multi-awarded company recognized for its innovations in the bedding industry.
