The presence of volcanic and lava flows on Venus was confirmed in the early 1990s by radar images captured by NASA Magellan. Later, in the 2000s, the European Space Agency's orbiter, Venus Express, measured the amount of infrared radiation emitted from volcanic and lava traces to determine when lava flows formed.

The analysis revealed that some lava traces were less than 250,000 years old, and in 2010, extraordinarily high infrared light was captured, considering the hot corrosive atmosphere of Venus.

According to the U.S. University Space Research Association (USRA), a team led by Dr. Justin Philippibert of the Moon and Planet Research Institute (LPI) shows that traces of lava flowing through lava may have formed just a few years ago. The results are published in the latest issue of the journal Science Advances.
