Handmade bed quilts made in Lancaster today, build on its traditions -- most quilters adapt patterns seen in 18th and 19th Century Lancaster County quilts. However, there isn't a drive here to simply replicate Great Grandmother Zook's best quilts. Instead, Lancaster's current generation of quilters are striving to outdo their grandmothers and create even more amazing quilts. The low cost, high quality, and multitude of printed fabrics give these modern quilters a palette their grandmothers could not imagine. Early quilts were made for personal use, often in response to a birth or a wedding. As a matter of pride and respect, these quilts were made to very high standards at a time when most women were already very proficient with a needle and thread. Some of Lancaster's quilters today match their forebears in stitching and attention to detail, even in quilts that they make for others. We present new quilts here that are the best Lancaster has to offer. We do this with the help of others, in particular Hannah S. (an Amish women renowned for her skills in designing quilts).

There are stars and three dimensional blocks, easy to spot with careful inspection. Also the blocks rotate around a small black star central to the quilt. The light colored top of each block moves as the blocks rotate around, forming a jagged circle. Perhaps the quilt gets its name from the multiple lines of symmetry that intersect and echo throughout, or possibly from the way the colored blocks seem to tumble out from the center black star. The quilting was done inside the blocks. Squint your eyes and enjoy a somewhat different view of this kaleidoscope of color. Magnificant office wall or foyer piece or of course your bed! Sleeve may be added for hanging. This has 8 hand quilted stitches per inch and is well quilted. 100% cotton fabrics ! A stunning design in 24 beautiful Batik fabrics in shades of the deep regal, purple, iris, lavender, violet and ivory - flowing into a great blending falls of 24 100% quilters cottons. This quilt would look fabulous if you turned back the pillow throw and stacked pillows on the head end because the quilt back is repeated in the fabric print that is in the top side. Fabric selections with quality backings of the same like print is a normal for Jean's quilts and sets them apart from all the others. Made here in Lancaster County by an Amish woman. All-quilted quilts are prized for their cool elegance and their workmanship. A quilt for today and for generations to come! This quilt with its fine cream white cotton fabric was quilted by a Lancaster County Amish woman. The Apple Blossom design is very nice but rarely made. The quilt available has scalloped edges. A beautiful and fresh change for a log cabin quilt! Here C Jean Horst has used designer Kaffe Fassett's beautiful new floral 100% cottons to make a strikingly bright but simple log cabin, which is why she calls it Simplicity. She has made a common quilt very unique with her choice of designer fabrics. While each patch is alike, all blocks are working together beautifully to show off an awesome collection of cottons. The lovely part about this quilt is that there is a beautiful feather quilting design going through the lighter side of the patchwork design to create an intricate touch of hand quilting designs.
She also has a documentation tag on the back corner which gives the name of the quilt, the maker, the location, the date, and the fabric content as well as a note "made in the USA." A very striking Bargello design with 25 extra-gorgeous Batik style teals/blues in 100 % cottons selected by C Jean Horst. Note the care taken with the selection of fabrics, complicated piecing, and the fantastic border fabrics. Both pieced and quilted by an Amish friend and signed by C Jean Horst.
