2 nights at the Aria Hotel (which appears quite new). Once the windows were closed there was absolutely no street noise which meant a great night's sleep. The king bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom had no natural light, and the lighting wasn't thought thru at all, dark tiles with only overhead lighting just didn't work. Tiles were polished porcelain throughout including shower area making it a bit of a hazard. Apartment was well equipped, clean and quite comfortable. Dining was across the car park in their older adjoining hotel. Food was OK, but Dickson has a great selection of restaurants well worth dining as they are only a few minutes drive away. The best undercover security parking we could have hoped for and easy lift access. Overall it was a relaxing stay, but we weren't needing much as far as facilities went as this was partly a work orientated visit to Canberra. Room Tip: There is a switch by the door 'do not disturb'. Unfortunately, couldnt indulge in a night in spa with bottle of wine as going in for surgery the next day....bummer! No alcahol night for me. However, it was a lovely one bedroom apartment, extra soft comfy bed, two reverse cycle air cons, one in bedroom one in lounge, for the very cold wintry Canberra night. Staff friendly and efficient, a balcony off the room, everything one needs, actually. Free parking undercover was a nice touch. Quite central, could walk to Civic if desired. Double glazed windows for quiet, also on a quieter street than Northbourne Ave nearby. And an oh-so-reasonable rate of $135 Australian ( however it really was a last minute price off a booking site, was a bit of an unexpected trip so I don't know if those bargains available most of the time. Would have liked a softer pillow option, but pillow firmness wasnt too bad, and it is a small quibble.
Will stay there again. Room Tip: the one room apartments are lovely Stayed here for one night as I had an event nearby and got a great deal on wotif. The room and bathroom were very clean. Nice big tv, plenty of storage (although not many hangers) and super comfortable bed. The cafe downstairs had some good breakfast options that weren't much more than you would pay for similar in Civic. The staff were polite and professional. Free parking was a huge plus. There is access to the restaurant, gym and pool at the Pavillion opposite, but I didn't get a chance to visit them. There're however a few reasons why I didn't give 5 stars. The rooms are a bit small compared to other 4/5 stars hotels I've stayed at. As a result there wasn't a sofa in the room, something I'm fond of as I don't like having to always be in bed or use the dining chair. The foyer was lifeless, although tastefully modern I doubt it ever encourages people to meet there. Lastly, for bathroom products they dont have shampoo and condition (only a two in one) and there is no soap.
If I was staying longer this would have been a big issue for me. I travel on business to Canberra regularly and this is my preferred hotel. It is clean modern and convenient You need a car but parking is free but you can walk into the main shopping precinct in 15 to 20 minutes. Some of the other reviews mention it is a bit clinical and I agree with this comment but better this than some of the higher priced hotels I have stayed when in Canberra. Perhaps not great for a family but if you are sight seeing and have a car I think still a good option. If you book direct you get the best prices and if you book in advance this is the best value for money hotel I have found. “"I want that one"” Stayed for 2 nights over Christmas day and Boxing day in a 2 bedroom apartment, The Apartments are connected by a foyer and each room has separate door which is good for privacy and you don't need to be on top of each other.Room is comfortable more like a hotel room though with a shared bedroom/tv/ and coffee making area, decent size bathroom and decent size Balcony.
