Last year, Philadelphia was named the second best shopping city in the world. Since then, the city’s shopping scene has only grown. Brick-and-mortar independent boutiques are popping up left and right, along with department stores like Nordstrom Rack and Century 21 and summertime pop-up markets like the Franklin Flea. Whether you’re looking for the trendiest gear or some one-of-a-kind home décor, Philly has the shop for you. And with Philly’s new stores, there’s a lot to check out this sunny season. Filbert Street Flower Market For the first time, Philadelphia will have an open-air botanical market. Thanks to a partnership between Reading Terminal Market and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, shoppers can pick up fresh flowers, enjoy live plant demonstrations and much more on a monthly basis. Egan Day, the Rittenhouse neighborhood's fine jewelry and museum-quality decor shop, has opened an gorgeous new sister store inside of The Rittenhouse hotel.

Egan Rittenhouse houses several concepts in one jewel-box space: a floral design boutique with arrangements by designer Matthew Muscarella and a lifestyle store with resort-appropriate clothing, gifts and accessories, including loungewear by Loup Charmant, Teresa Change pottery and luxe children’s toys. Ps & Qs For Her Ps & Qs is a sportswear staple in Philadelphia. Recently, the crew opened a women’s shop on Pine Street dedicated to gear for the ladies. The shop’s repertoire expands beyond name-brand clothing, shoes and accessories to things like Garden-in-a-Can tins and Ps-and-Qs-brand goodies, too. Fason De Viv is Haitian Creole for “lifestyle.” Developed by a mother-daughter duo, Fason De Viv in Philadelphia is fashion boutique and brand in Old City. The intimate shop offers boho-style women’s jewelry, clothing and accessories. Bucks County Dry Goods Bucks County Dry Goods has opened its third regional location, the first in Philadelphia. The Lambertville-based shop sells women’s clothing and accessories, as well as hip vintage furniture.

Parisa Rugs & Décor A boutique rugs and furniture gallery, Parisa is located in the Historic Philadelphia neighborhood in Old City. The store’s owner, Parisa Abdollahi, designs her own rug collection and hand picks pieces like colorful arm chairs and modern light fixtures. This newly opened vintage boutique offers a lot more than clothing. The store, located in Fishtown, carries textiles and house wares from independent designers. Importer Koray Avci shows off his worldly artisan connections — from Istanbul to Miami — in his new jewelry shop location on Sansom Street. Evil eye bracelets, wide brass cuffs, boldly beaded necklaces and hand-stamped prayer rings make his space feel like an exotic find in a far-away souk. Look for Bella Turka's additional location on 13th Street in Midtown Village.Located on the posh strip of Walnut Street known as Rittenhouse Row, Ubiq is a sanctuary of retro-mod style and design. An independent boutique that specializes in men’s and women’s vintage sneakers, Ubiq is a must-visit for any sneaker-, style- or design-aficionado.

The proprietors of Ubiq have tapped the store’s design to highlight the rarity and quality of its offerings. They recently hired the renowned architect Rafael de Cardenas to renovate the interior space and the results are nothing less than striking. The main room is awash in black and white with sneakers lining the walls from front to back. One wall is mirrored so as to make for optimal observation of the sneaker (or sneakers) that strike your fancy. Ubiq’s design is big on juxtaposition. The back room, which holds clothing and accessories, is dramatically different from the sleek, pseudo-futuristic concept of the main room. Instead, you enter what looks like the drawing room of an early 20th-century brownstone, complete with a gorgeous ornate fireplace and dark-stained hardwood floors. As for product, while the shoes are clearly the focus at Ubiq, the clothing and accessories don’t exactly play second fiddle. The menswear is typically of a limited release and invariably from standout lines and designers.

The T-shirt selection is always incredibly impressive. Meanwhile, you can’t find many of the shoes displayed here anywhere else on the east coast, including the eponymous line of sneakers made just for the store. So stop in, check it out and we’re guessing that, before long, you will have found a pair of kicks that you just can’t put down. There is a second Ubiq in the Gallery Mall at 10th and Market Streets. Kicks USA, another sneaker store located in the Gallery is owned by the same owner. Why not be fashionable and comfortable at the same time?
