They are not binding and easy to put on and off with my husband's recent knee replacement. They seem to run small and we exchanged for a half size larger. My son has owned 3 pairs of these work horse shoes now. He walks to work every day and home every day and about 10 miles while at work on slippery floors. Working in a grocery story they have to be water resistant and slip proof. Once a cart ran over his foot and ripped the top of the shoe, but his foot was perfectly fine. They're the only shoes he wears and they tend to last about 6months at a time. Considering how much he puts them through, that's not bad! And being Autistic, it's a HUGE bonus that they don't tie.Love all the Keen styles. I decided I needed a closed toe sandal for hiking in the Galapagos. As I'm in my very late seventies, I just might need a bit more in a sandal than younger travelers. However, there is little cushion and I do need that. Just walking around the house in these left my feet hurting. With a high arch it was difficult to get them on and it took work!
No way to loosen them. Once on: no arch support either. Also, the strap across the instep is too short and doesn't allow for true fitting across the foot. I tried on several Keens. Loved them all but they just don't work for me. Really nice shoe, seemed comfortable out of the box. A little too rugged of a look for what I was wanting. Would have kept it, but given the expense decided to return and continue searching for that perfect shoe. These are very comfortable out of the box. I've had a hard time finding comfortable shoes because of plantar fasciitis and two foot surgeries. I have a narrow foot, but while these have plenty of room in the toe box, they are snug enough around the rest of the foot and ankle so that my foot doesn't float around in them as I have had happen in the past with other tie-up shoes that were not narrow. I also have very high arches, and while the arch support in these is not sufficient for me, my custom orthotics fit in them with no problem. These are true to size.
