However, Gillespie walked both Brooke Vines and Meghan Gregg in the bottom of the seventh inning to put runners in scoring position. That opened the door for Seggern who crushed a ball deep to left-center field for the game-winning RBI single. Following a slow start in the first inning, the Vols elected to turn to true freshman Caylan Arnold in the pitcher's circle. Arnold answered the call in the second inning, striking out all three batters on only 12 pitches. She finished her night by throwing six hitless innings and finished with a career-high nine strikeouts. The only batter that Arnold allowed on base resulted from an error. After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Volunteers responded quickly to get on the board in the bottom of the first when Gregg smacked the game's only extra-base hit, doubling to center field to score Vines. Gregg finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and an RBI. CJ McClain continued the momentum in the second inning, tying the game up with an RBI groundout to score pinch runner Shelby Robinson from third.
