Dickins & Jones Rosie White Bedding: from £18, House of Fraser This set delivers for those who love the crisp white freshness of hotel linen, adding a textured design that makes it cosy enough for home. We’re particularly impressed by its good value and potential for combining with bright colours or other textures. 2. Bolltistel Duvet Set: from £30, Ikea

Huge abstract dandelions in yellow, purple and a mix of grey tones make up this fresh IKEA print. It’s bold design needs little accessorizing with further pillows or throws. The set is a mix of cotton and lyocell, a renewable material made from wood pulp. 3. Arrowhead Duvet Set: £19, Urban Outfitters Coloured triangles follow each other back and forth across this fun double duvet set from hip high-street shop Urban Outfitters. The set comes in pink, grey and black as well as this minty green (our favourite for Spring). 4. Orla Kiely Bird Watch: £90, Amara If it’s funky you’re after, look no further than Orla Kiely, who has a great eye for mixing pattern and colour in creative and bold ways. We particularly like this colourful bird print on white background, which comes gift boxed. 5. Seasalt Yacht Bedding: £15, Marquis & Dawe Bring a bit of beach to your bedroom with this nautical yacht print set from Seasalt. They’re made from super-soft 200 thread cotton, which is breathable and cool for summer, and the contrasting piping running around the outside is a nice detail.

6. Alvine Kvist: from £30, Ikea Refresh your bedroom in an instant with this charcoal print against a white background. It will look just as at home in a contemporary or urban setting as a traditional one. Made from crisp cotton and with a nice low price tag, it’s a design that is bound to stay timeless. 7. Luxury Plain White: from £47, The Best Bed Linen in the World Many of the top hotels across the UK use this bed linen, made of 400 thread-count percale. They stay white, no matter how many washes they get, and their weight and durability is impressive too. Don’t panic if you think they’re a bit shiny when you open them up – that reduces after a couple of washes. 8. Anorak Kissing Stags: from £45, Amara This design of black kissing stags on a cream background has proven hugely popular on everything from towels to cushions and it works particularly well on this 100 per cent cotton duvet cover, which is available in single, double and king sizes, which come with matching pillowcases.

9. Bluebellgray Devon Floral Bedding: from £65, John Lewis If you love florals but find most designs a bit too twee, you’ll love the bold colours and big blooms of Bluebellgray’s range, which is striking and pretty at the same time. We think the little details, like the bright green contrast piping round the edges and the simple petal print on the reverse, make this set a really beautiful choice. 10. Designers Guild Sukumala Berry: from £70, Designers Guild Running from rich magenta to smoky aubergine and decorated with a stencil print, this cotton set is an eye-catching one. The underside is pattern-free for days when you want a change from brights. 11. The White Company Savoy: from £90, The White Company No wonder this Italian-made bed linen is a bestseller. Available in white or alabaster, it is timeless and chic, as well as being made from super-smooth 400-thread-count Egyptian cotton percale that feels gorgeous against the skin and washes like a dream.

12. Joules Floral Duvet Cover: £50, Joules If you like florals with a bit of a difference, this fun bee print is a nice option. On the other side, you get beachy stripes. The fabric is super-soft and it washes well without fading, while the buttons and piping give it a nice quality finish. 13. Habitat Mauzy: from £25, Habitat Habitat has always been good at strong, abstract designs that work well in modern settings and this is no exception. This one has a nod to retro with its geometric design and bold palette and it’s nice and friendly on the purse-strings too. 14. Essenza Esra Duvet Set: from £80, Amara The fresh colour-combo on this super-soft cotton satin set is apparently inspired by the hues and reflections of the sea. Okay, it’s not quite the same as nodding on off the beach, but it’s a start. The White Company Savoy is soft and luxurious beyond belief, but if you want a bit more colour in your bedroom, our top recommendation goes to Designers Guild Sukumala Berry;
