On the podium the celebrations continued and in my 25 years of covering Formula 1 this has to be one of the best. His emotion and passion can be seen in every image, from arriving on the podium, his smiles were just immense, and then everyone was shouting 'Shoey, shoey', as he had promised to drink champagne from his racing boot – he duly poured the spoils into his boot and drank the champagne of success. As he did it the crowd and his fans were going mad. He also passed the shoe to Max, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, and Nico, who finished third. The drivers arrived on the podium and celebrated with their teams and fans, then received their trophies. I could see Nico was eager to show his emotions, so he pumped the trophy in the air.
