Oh, how long I’ve wanted to share them with you all. Now I can tell stories! As you know, we live in Korea. We have our own apartment here. Our apartment, however, didn’t come with any furniture, so we had to buy our own. This was before Ikea came to Korea, so we had to go to the furniture shops in Seoul, and – sweet Jebus – they’re ridiculously overpriced. Some people may defend the exorbitant prices of the furniture by saying that they’re made with quality materials rather than compressed sawdust, but – quality or not – I’m not ready to spend tens of thousands of dollars on furniture.

And on a bed frame? Thousands of dollars for a bed frame? I’ll go $500, tops. I’m not that fancy. I’d rather spend more money on a good mattress. But the bed frames we saw in Korea were all in the thousands, and they were all like the ones we’re showing here. I just don’t get it. Sleeping on the floor is alright at times, I guess. But spending so much money on a bed frame, when it’s just another floor?! Just sleep on the floor! It feels the same! Or maybe you want it elevated because it’s easier to get into, if you have back problems. But I didn’t know that people liked sleeping on hard surfaces like this so much. I can’t do it myself, personally. I sleep on my sides. And because I’m so big, when I sleep on my sides the difference between my shoulders and waist is consequential, and so I need something fluffy that I can melt into. If I sleep on my side on a hard surface, all of my weight is borne by my shoulders and hips, and I wake up sore as hell. Or, even just trying to sleep on my back on a hard surface is possible, but I wake up a broken man.

When we went to Jeju for our latest road trip we had to stop in Mokpo for the night, and the bed we were given was almost as hard as the bed we’re displaying here. I…did not fare well the next day. This video we filmed while we were in Busan, as part of our road trip. Many road trip videos to come! For last year’s road trip, we filmed 250GB of footage. This year, we filmed 500GB. SO MANY GEE BEES! Lots of videos coming soon. And now we’re back at the studio, and should get to filming more stuff regularly again. And, no, we’re not sharing this item on Gmarket. You all might be interested in buying a face mask or a hula hoop, but I doubt you’d buy a multi-thousand dollar bed frame. But, for real, what are beds like where you’re from? Maybe it’s not just Korea that does hard beds like this? I just assumed that all beds are desired to be soft and squishy. Please let me know if your country does things otherwise :D < PREVIOUS POST WTF NEXT POST >FEW people would consider an outsize rock to be the ideal pillow.

But not unlike a medieval knight in a brass rubbing, resting in sweet repose on a stone tablet, Ling Chan, the celebrity facialist, sleeps on a 9-by-15-inch slab of jade. ''To me, it is cool and comforting, like butter,'' Ms. Chan said. ''In the morning, I feel as if my head and neck have been massaged for eight hours. It balances the flow of chi, or energy, in my body. It gives me serenity.''Serenity is a valuable commodity to Ms. Chan, who is in the business of soothing the complexions and egos of clients like Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand and Madonna. She is famous for her luxuriously long facials, which often include spiritual guidance and advice about romance. Because she does all this standing up, a good night's sleep is essential.Like many Asians, Ms. Chan grew up believing that jade has mystical powers to heal and restore the body and spirit. Its role in the Chinese bed, bath and beyond dates back 2000 years to the Han dynasty, when jade pillows were carved exclusively for royalty.

According to lore, the Empress Dowager Cixi was famously fond of hers.In modern-day Chinese culture, the green stone is still popular. At Ms. Chan's three Ling Skin Care salons in Manhattan, jade cylinders are rolled over customers' faces and eyes to revive the skin and absorb bad chi. At her home in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, jade Buddhas and talismans make her meditation room and living room almost verdant. The pillow, however, is Ms. Chan's security blanket. ''I am so attached to it,'' she said as she led the way to her bedroom. ''I almost believe I slept on it in a past life.'' (Even in a past life, she apparently slumbered only on her back, since jade is distinctly inhospitable to stomach-sleepers.) Turning down the red silk bedspread, she uncovered the stone, which was tucked under a down pillow as if it were a 25-pound tooth that only the doughtiest tooth fairy could spirit away. To be sure, this tooth fairy would have to be not only strapping but also unusually flush. A solid jade pillow costs about $2,000.
