As Oshima’s assistant on “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence,” Pulvers oversaw the dialogue in both Japanese and English. A strong bond of friendship formed between him and Ryuichi Sakamoto. So, it was natural that he should turn to the Oscar-winning composer when making STAR SAND. Sakamoto acceded, and composed a most beautiful and haunting melody for the film.
