By Anna Smith of of Annabode You may be thinking, do you really need to hack an Ikea product to give it mid-century style? Don’t they just start that way? And yes, it’s true… much of what we love about Ikea stems from 50s and 60s Scandinavian design. But if you’ve read the entire Ikea Hack series, you’ll know that you can finagle just about any style from an Ikea piece to suit your needs. I’m still a sucker for good ol’ MCM, though! If you follow me on Instagram you’ll notice I’m still (stubbornly) trying to push our 1972-built house back a decade or two—which is why I had so much fun putting together this round-up of what I think are the 10 absolute coolest Ikea hacks for adding mid-century style to your home… 1. The dedication to detail that Bethany had in creating this DIY sputnik light astounds me. All those glass pieces! 2. Mark Detchemendy made his locker cabinet extra luxe with some plywood and Ikea hardware. The low profile makes it perfect as a mid-century credenza!

3. These planters were made 10x better by Heather’s quick hack, and they look awesome leading up to that orange front door. 4. I especially love this DIY planter hack because you can do it to pretty much any wooden Ikea bowl. 5. I had to look twice when I read that Petite Apartment’s Ikea hack credenza used contact paper and not real wood for the fronts. (The placement of the legs is especially refreshing– the go-to seems to always be on the outer corners.) 6. Abby Larson’s gorgeous leather lounge chairs look worlds away from Ikea, especially with the “brass” bases. 7. Isn’t the wood on Ayisha’s dresser hack incredible? I would never think to use Ikea’s deck flooring, but it looks so good! 8. This desk hack is just adorable in every way. Perfect for a small space, and I love the pattern detail on the back. 9. David turned his BESTA into a retro record cabinet (who knew it was the perfect size for records?) 10. My favorite of the ten?

This coffee table hack on Apartment Therapy. Genuine slat benches can be hundreds of dollars, so the savings on this one make it even sweeter! Want more mid-century Ikea hacks?
