It’s official: children’s furniture in Singapore has reached some pretty stylish new heights – where was all of this cool stuff when we were kids? We’re looking on the bright side and seeing this as a chance to live out all of our decorating dreams: these are the stores in Singapore where you can find the coolest beds, tables and more to kit out your kid’s rooms in style. Go wild, go bright, go bold with your little people’s bedrooms. Don’t blame us if you have a serious case of interiors envy after reading this… Oh how we wish we could be small again so we could have a room of our own decked out in the fun and seriously stylish pieces at Cuckoo. Take the colourful handmade rattan chairs, for a start: the custom order ‘Love Chair’ ($495, pictured in main image), which has been a fave with stylists and fans of all things bright and beautiful, is perfect for curling up with a book – we’ll take one in aqua, please! And throw in the matching headboard, too. Okay, okay, we love it all – from the sharp mini table and chairs by Sand, to the clever skateboard shelving units by Lecons de Chose (both shown in main image).

Cool parents-to-be will be happy to hear this news: the Sebra Kili convertible cot bed is now exclusively available at Cuckoo in grey (as seen in main pic), white, blue and pink. Got a pair of older kids and are searching for that elusive stylish bunk bed? Check out the new Oliver Furniture Wood Collection at Cuckoo – the hunt is over! Cuckoo Little Lifestyle Store, Block 6B Dempsey Road, Singapore 247662, 9111 3598; .sg Public service announcement: Piccolo House has a fire engine bed for toddlers! Aside from the mega fun beds for little ones (did we mention that there’s a doll house version too?) this store has the best range of out-of-the-ordinary bookshelves and storage units. We wish we had the Vanilla dollhouse bookcase ($499) when we were growing up. There are also Knight Castle and Fire Engine versions to help create a great little reading nook that will light up your child’s imagination, and pull-along book carts for literary kids on the go. Want to encourage your little ones to keep their space tidy?

The sturdy wooden storage cubes ($119 for a single) will give them a good hint. Other faves are the wooden clothes rails perfect for dress-ups, and the Ridley trestle table with built-in shelving ($429). Piccolo House, 10 Ubi Crescent #01-63 (Lobby D) Ubi Techpark Singapore 408564 (along UBI Ave.1); The Grandstand, 200 Turf Club Road #01-32B Singapore 287994; This newcomer to the Tan Boon Liat Building – a fave spot for window shopping for our fantasy home – has got us a little bit excited. We’ll save our hyperventilating over the fun bedding and accessories for later, because the collection of hard-to-find kids’ furniture (which spans modern, sophisticated and retro styles) is worth shouting about. If you’re into clean Scandi style for your bubba, check out the Malmo nursery collection in matt white; fans of brights will appreciate the Chalk Mix nursery range, which includes a fab mint green cot (from $1,129) and sunshiny yellow chest of drawers ($1,1335). For older kids, the Kidsmill Somero collection is a clean and sleek unisex option that won’t date.

Kidsmill’s sleek ‘Sixties Matt Wardrobe’ ($1449) – for kids to stash all their cool threads, of course. Shop online or visit the showroom. Deer Industries, Tan Boon Liat Building #07-05, 315 Outram Road, Singapore 169074; It’s hard to go past Ni-Night’s wooden furniture for kids, from beds to cabinets and one of the cutest clothes trees we’ve seen – and we love the fact that Ni-Night also does such great work to support children and families in need in Cambodia. The baby furniture has been carefully designed with all considerations a mum could need, from adjustable heights to drop-down sides – owner Majella Skansebakkan is a mum of three herself. Pssst: this is where you can pick up that essential Eames-inspired rocking chair ($325) for the nursery! Ni-Night is beloved for its beds: wrought-iron, loft or bunk, there’s a style that’s perfect for your kid. Want to add a extra pop of colour to the room? Snap up a bright desk chair with cool chrome legs ($150). Shop online or visit the show room in Joo Chiat.

Ni-Night, 7 Joo Chiat Place, Singapore, 427742, p. 6440 7567; Don’t underestimate the power of IKEA: this Swedish staple always comes up with some real gems. Take these two super playful pieces: the Ekorre hanging chair and the PS Lömsk swivel chair. We love the Ekkore – a swinging seat for kids that allows them to enjoy sensory fun: they can gently sway, spin or just hang out ($39.99). The PS Lömsk ($119), in punchy orange or electric blue, offers an egg-shaped nook that’s perfect for curling up with a book. Pull down the hood and it’s a hiding spot too. Who doesn’t love IKEA for its fun, affordable pieces? Plus, the classic beds and cots are great basics that you can easily customise with a lick of paint. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try your hand at an IKEA hack… IKEA, 317 Alexandra Road, Singapore 159965; 60 Tampines North Drive 2, Singapore 528764; /sg Lovers of modern design (who don’t want to let their kids loose on an original), rejoice: fun furniture and homewares store Fred Lives Here has excellent reproductions of all the icons – Egg chairs, Eames loungers, Swan and Barcelona chairs – in miniature!

A Eames-inspired lounger and ottoman set will set you back $1,458, but it will certainly make for a childhood bedroom to remember. Or, if black leather and wood aren’t your kiddo’s thing, introduce some technicolour elements with a Panton chair or two ($81 each). Fred Lives Here also stocks some seriously cool lighting. We say you’re never too young to appreciate a diamond light cage (at a sweet $39). Shop online or visit the showroom in Orchard. Fred Lives Here, #02-14, Level 2, Orchard Central Mall, 181 Orchard Road, Singapore 238896; Head to this online emporium for unique kids’ furniture created by independent designers. Our fave for a fab nursery is the Kalon ‘Caravan Crib’ ($1,890), inspired by a circus wagon – made from FSC-certified maple, with railings in vibrant hues, this clever cot converts into a toddler bed, and can later be used for seating. Other cool and quirky finds currently on the site include the multicoloured Riki Stool produced by Metrocs (from $159) comprised of sturdy cardboard segments that are light enough to play with, but form a sturdy stool, and the Toh-kki Beanbag ($190), which has bunny ears.
