My experience is with the Malm storage bed:MALM Storage bed, white And I do love it! This bed is great for readily accessible storage of off season clothing, suitcase, Emergency Go Bag, etc. Not difficult to open. The recommendation is to use only certain mattresses with it however I suspect it has to do with weight and turning axis when opening. I chose one of the recommended IKEA mattresses in medium firm and use a memory foam topper. My guess would be that a very heavy 18″ mattress plus humans could prove too heavy for slats, causing failure. My IKEA mattress has fit USA sheets and dust mite cover exactly so I've found no discrepancy there. Also, to your point: I did use my very good condition regular mattress on the bed before giving it away due to weight.

(Excessive stuff and excessive weight in belongings is unattractive anymore.)BestWhere our store is located, we've got an Ikea nearby so, we've seen a lot of situations with their beds. You would have to judge based on how far apart the slats are from each other as, they've got a lot of different variations. If the slats are three inches or less apart from one another, you don't need a box spring. If they exceed that amount, you'll need to get one. I'm not sure where you are but we sell queen box springs (separately) for $105. It won't be a big expense. You can even do a bunkie board which is a 2 inch thick version of a box spring. Sidenote: Be sure that you have a STANDARD size bed from Ikea. I've seen some weird European sizes that they use so that you HAVE to buy your mattress from them. As far as I know, Ikea sells a full range of mattresses of every quality and every price, and they do not give any kind of warning regarding the use of which on their beds (apart some generic recommendations) - so I suppose there would be no problem to put another kind of mattress at their place.

And I am pretty sure that not every Ikea-branded mattress is built with a box spring. So, if the mattress is sufficiently padded and sturdy, it shouldn’t give you any kind of problem. If you are still in doubt, there is a trick that people used in old times (when the bedframes were old and not supportive enough): buy a sheet of real wood (that is, flexible enough), and put it between the slats and the mattress.200X200 50X8050X80 CmKing IkeaQueen IkeaStenört QuiltIkea StenörtBedroom FundBorough BedroomPillowcase 59Forward$49 STENÖRT Duvet cover and pillowcase(s) IKEA Feels crisp and cool against your skin as it’s made of cotton percale, densely woven from fine yarn.Queen Storage Bed DiyIkea Storage BedDeep StorageStorage HeadboardIkea Queen BedQueen MattressBed MattressMattress LengthStolmen BedForwardIkea queen storage bed we made using Stolmen & Lack pieces. You get 10 drawers in bed for LIGHT items. Used 2 long units on each side. 1 short unit at foot of bed. 3 Lacks in the middle as filler. We’re all princesses frightened of sleeping on peas these days – how else to explain the rise in popularity of mattress toppers, that squidgy extra layer of comfort under your sheet, atop the bed. Memory foam is popular, but complaints include its sometimes strong smell, plus it can retain heat so well that the bed boils. As an alternative, natural fillings are growing in popularity and availability, so I decided to undertake a home trial. Penrose Products alpaca mattress topper bedding set, £80 Fibre from alpacas is soft, luxurious and supremely comfy. Like silk, it moderates body temperature, and it is naturally hypoallergenic so great for allergy sufferers. Luxury alpaca mattress enhancer, £151.99 My daughter found it heavy at first, but is now adjusted and sleeps like Rip van Winkle. What more can you want? Ultimate microfibre topper with silk, £85

Dust mites hate silk, making it the ideal choice for anyone suffering allergies, and you can get toppers, duvets, pillow cases and bedding for the full experience. Silk filled mattress topper, £85 It’s also lightweight, and stays cool – perfect for women of a certain age. Deluxe wool bedding set, £213.48 Sleeping with wool is said to provide up to 25 per cent more deep regenerative sleep (i.e. stage four REM sleep), over traditional down or synthetic bedding. Devon Duvets British wool mattress toppers, from £110 I found it soft underneath and naturally warm. The accompanying duvet was super snugly, but the pillows too firm for my taste. Hastens BJ top mattress, price on request This could be the perfect topper: thick, firm, and unbelievably cushioning. Horsehair is very durable (hence its use in traditional upholstery), and as the strands of hair are open-celled (or hollow), moisture passes through easily, wicking sweat away. Plus the individual hairs never squash into a permanent shape, which I felt gave it the promised added “spring”.
