MAMMUT SERIESInspired by the creative shapes in cartoons, the MAMMUT series gives kids fun furniture of their own. Rounded corners and drawers with stops mean they’re safe, too. And smart features like a raised edge on the table means that spills won’t end up on the floor.A SET of Ikea drawers which have caused the death of six children overseas has been withdrawn from sale, but will continue be sold here.Ikea Australia said the Malm chest of drawers would not be recalled, despite the company doing so in the US and Canada. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said it had also received at least 36 separate reports of injuries caused after the furniture fell on children. However Ikea Australia said it was not undertaking the recall insisting the safety of its products was “our highest priority.”.au the spokesman said the Malm came with “anti tip restraints” along with instructions on how to mount the piece of furniture to a wall.“Ikea chest of drawers are safe when attached to the wall as directed in the assembly instructions,” he said.“

We spread awareness of the importance of securing furniture on our products and product instructions, on the website and in-stores.”He added Ikea Australia was offering customers who have misplaced the tip over restraints included with their chest of drawers additional free replacements which can be picked up in any store or online. The announcement from Ikea Australia comes after the store giant revealed it was recalling 29 million chests and dressers overseas. Ikea said it can pose “a tip-over and entrapment hazard that can result in death or injuries to children” if it is not properly anchored to a wall.“We are announcing this US recall today given the recent tragic death of a third child,” Ikea said in a statement.“It is clear that there are still unsecured products in customers’ homes, and we believe that taking further action is the right thing to do.”At a news conference, the Consumer Product Safety Commission underscored the risk with a live demonstration of chests tipping over.“

Consumers need to act immediately because it’s a very present hazard, especially if you have kids in your home,” the commission’s chairman Elliot Kaye said in an interview.Mr Kaye said consumers “need to either get their anchor kit from Ikea for free and install it on their furniture, take it back to the store for a full refund or have Ikea come and pick it up from their homes for free.”The recall, which only applies to customers in the US and Canada, is for several types of Ikea chests and dressers, including the Malm line.Ikea said the units under the recall are children’s chests and drawers taller than 60cm and adult chests and dressers taller than 75cm.The recalled units were sold at Ikea stores “at various times through June 2016,” the company said. All of the children killed were three years old or younger, the CPSC said. One child was killed about 27 years ago. The other deaths were more recent, between 2002 and 2016.Ikea said that anyone who owned one of those chests and dressers and had not attached them to a wall should move it out of reach from children.
