The first thing you will need is an Ikea Expedit Shelving Unit. The Expedit Shelving Unit is no longer available from Ikea, however, the is available and if it had been when I made my window benches, I would have used it because it is a little bit shorter with 4 openings instead of 5. Next you'll need at least 2 sets of Ikea Capita Legs. We got the 4 inch ones which made the window bench plenty tall. It's the perfect height for kids to be able to climb up on the bench, and for adults to sit on it. We got 3 sets of Capita legs because we made two window benches. After stapling the quilt batting, you will repeat the step but using fabric this time. You can choose any type of fabric you want. For the window bench in our nursery, we chose  . I had previously cut it and ironed it for a smooth surface once it was stapled on. For our living room bench, we chose . I can't tell you how long it took me to decide on which fabric to use. I would suggest waiting until you absolutely fall in love with something.

For more information on the storage containers/bins I chose for my window benches, look .I must confess: IKEA Poang chair is among my favorite pieces by this brand because it’s modern and stylish, its layer-glued bent birch frame gives comfortable resilience. Soft, durable and easy care leather is practical for families with children. A variety of seat cushion designs makes it easy to change the look of your chair. The high back provides good support for your neck. To sit even more comfortably and relaxed, you can use the armchair together with a Poang ottoman. There are so many advantages, aren’t there? Besides, you may this chair in various spaces and for various purposes as it’s an IKEA piece and such furniture can always be hacked.Where You Can Use IKEA Poang ChairPoang chair may be used in living rooms, nurseries, reading nooks, home offices, dining rooms and of course, terraces and patios. It’s a great relaxing piece that can easily match almost any décor and style due to its versatility.

IKEA Poang Chair Hacks To TryPoang chair can be renovated in lots of interesting ways. The easiest idea is repaint the frame in the color you like to refresh the look of the chair or in case it has some scratches. If you are good at sewing, make a new slipcover for your Poang depending on the interior and décor style you have. You may also add some foam inside to make it a bit softer. Make it nautical, blush, bold, patterned, color blocked (that’s very trendy) or any other you want. Make the frame and the cover contrasting for a cooler look. Add a couple of cushions, faux fur, a sheepskin and you’ll get nearly a new Poang! If you are up for some more profound changes, turn your Poang chair into a rocker! It’ll become even more relaxing this way. An armrest attached to the Poang chair will give you some space for placing your tablet, cup or glasses. Change it completely turning into a hammock-style seating with some faux leather. Wanna see all the possible DIY hacks? Wayfair Basics Polyester Slipcover

We splurged on this table and found some simple dining room chairs to go with it. They were a super clearance find at Ikea and matched the angled legs of our table pretty darn closely. So for the past couple of years we’ve been using the chairs with some Orla Kiely chair cushions on them. I’m a big fan of Orla’s prints but our chair cushions had seen better days.

I’ve sewn and resewn the buttons on each one several times so I decided it was time for an update. The seats came upholstered with a solid tan microsuede fabric that was pretty boring. So to give them a refresh I created my own fabric on Zazzle. It added some color and pattern and took them from plain Ikea to something a little more custom. Now, I cannot stop starting at them! This might be one of my favorite home projects to date and it was one of the easiest too. Zazzle offers several types of fabric (7 to be exact) so you can find just the right material for your project. They even have a helpful fabric guide that explains the differences between each one and the recommend uses. I ended up going with the polyester poplin fabric and it’s proven to be just right for chair cushions. It’s a durable woven polyester fabric that doesn’t wrinkle much and has some weight. I went with my bright yellow modern floral stem print. The pattern printed crisp and the colors are vivid—just what our dining room chairs needed!

Below is the process I used for reupholstering our chairs, including my trick for creating perfect corners each time! Supplies: chairs with upholstered seats / fabric / staple remover / staple gun + staples / fabric scissors / screw driver / pliers (for removing stubborn staples) / ScotchGard fabric spray (optional) Time: 30 minutes per chair Gather your supplies and remove the chair cushions. There are usually just a couple of screws that hold each cushion in place. If your staples are nearly flush with the wood, like mine were, I highly recommend investing in this staple remover. It would have taken so much longer and my hands would have definitely blistered has I just used a screw driver. Remove the old fabric using a staple remover. You may need to pull out some stubborn staples using a pair of pliers but I only had to do this a couple times. Drape the new fabric on top of the cushion. If the fabric is directional, make sure it’s going the way you want.

(I definitely recovered one cushion onto to realize I had the print backwards!) You can use the old fabric as a template, however I found it much easier to work with a larger piece of fabric. Cut the fabric so it’s about 3″ wider than the cushion. Position the fabric where you want it then carefully flip the cushion over so it’s upside down. Staple one side at a time. Pull the extra fabric taught while you staple. Trim the excess fabric when you’re done. How to fold the corners When you get to a corner, pull the fabric on the other side over, so it’s in a straight line. Staple it to hold it in place. Pull the fabric towards the middle at 45° so it slightly folds around the corner. Staple this into place and continue finishing the other long side. Repeat the same steps when you get to the next corner. To help keep my fabric looking nice and new, I sprayed each cushion with a thin, even coat of Scotchgard spray and allowed it to dry completely before reassembling them.
