Of course you can use a sheet with your Wovenaire mattress, but please make sure it’s a breathable cotton sheet that doesn’t hinder airflow. We suggest the Aden+Anais muslin cotton sheets that we offer for purchase. You can find our selection here. Is the cover waterproof? The cover is not waterproof, however, it is water resistant!

Waterproofing usually utilizes some form of synthetic backing, which eliminates breathability and increases overheating, creating a breeding ground for bacteria. Newton’s safe breathable mattress solution eliminates “sweaty backs” and is completely washable from cover to core. There’s nothing cleaner than sleeping on air! May I use a waterproof mattress protector or pad with my Newton? Using a pad over your mattress is not necessary, as this would affect the breathability of the Wovenaire®. Mattress protectors can cause overheating and also severely reduce breathability of the mattress. We have made the Wovenaire® Crib Mattress water resistant and completely washable from cover to core. We also have made replacement covers available for purchase so you can always have an easy back up for those late night changes! What’s the mattress made of? The crib mattress is 90% air by volume, captured by a unique core material called Wovenaire® and surrounded by a breathable spacer fabric cover.

We’ve chosen this material because unlike foam and latex, it is completely safe, non-toxic, hypo-allergenic and doesn’t off-gas or leach. Wovenaire® is a patented cushioning material that replaces foam, latex, and springs. It’s made of 100% recyclable food-grade polymer. Wovenaire is 90% air by volume - which makes it incredibly light and, well, airy. It’s Greenguard Gold Certified, which means it is tested and certified to have low chemical emissions. In addition, Wovenaire® is hypoallergenic, and doesn’t off-gas or leach toxic chemicals in the way foam and latex can. All this makes Wovenaire® a perfect choice for your baby. How is Wovenaire® made? Wovenaire® is made by weaving food grade polymer in a pool of crystal-clear water. It solidifies to form a three dimensional cushion, consisting of 90% air by volume. Wovenaire® completely forms itself in water and is then shaped into standard crib mattress sizes and then placed inside its cover. Watch it being made on our Design page here.

Where is everything made? Our patented Wovenaire® material is made in the USA at our facility outside of Nashville, Tennessee. We cover the Wovenaire with a three-dimensional material to promote breathability that is made for us in China. All final assembly, quality control and order fulfillment is done from the same facility in Tennessee. Do you use a flame retardant? We’re happy to say that we do not use any toxic chemical fire retardants. Instead, Wovenaire® contains natural phosphates, most commonly known as salt. This is a completely safe, halogen and heavy metal-free solution for achieving the fire safety standards that are required by the US government. Is there any off-gassing? Newton products have been independently tested and certified by UL to meet Greenguard Gold standards for the lowest chemical emissions. The standards are among the most rigorous in the world to test for the lowest measurements of chemical emissions such as VOCs, and certifies that Newton products help to promote a healthier indoor air quality.

With Newton, you can rest assured your baby is sleeping safely. Newton uses only hypoallergenic materials in the crib mattress. By virtue of the Wovenaire® Crib Mattress’ breathability, it keeps humidity and moisture build up away, eliminating a haven for dust mites to breed. The crib mattresses’ easy washability helps to ensure all dust and allergens are kept at bay. Can I buy an additional mattress cover? We encourage you to always have a replacement cover on hand! They’re all easy to swap out - so you can be sure your baby is always sleeping on the cleanest surface possible. You can add them to your cart here. Will it fit in all cribs? Our crib mattress has been designed for a snug fit complying with all mandatory safety standards of standard sized cribs, measured as 28” x 52” x 5.5”. We also offer a Mini Crib Mattress that will fit mini cribs with a mattress dimension of 38” x 24” x 5.5”. How do I wash my Newton Wovenaire® Crib Mattress?

1. Washing the cover: Unzip the cover and remove it from the mattress to wash by hand or in a washing machine. If you use a washing machine, make sure to zipper the cover closed to avoid snagging the fabric. Be sure and use a mild detergent and COLD or COOL water. Using hot water may cause the cover to shrink which would make it not fit properly. Dry on cool settings or hang to air dry. After washing, the cover should go back on the core easily. If the fit has become tight due to shrinkage, please contact us immediately for a replacement. 2. Once the cover is removed, the Wovenaire mattress can also be washed. Place your Wovenaire mattress in the shower or tub. Spot clean the soiled area (or the whole mattress!) with cold or cool water. Just make sure to use a mild detergent and to avoid hot water. 3. To dry the Wovenaire mattress: Shake rigorously to release any trapped water droplets inside the core. Lay it on its side to dry. This will take approximately 2-6 hours, depending on how much air circulation is in the

If you want to speed up the process, place the core in a well-ventilated area and/or in front of a fan. Never place in a clothes dryer or use a hand dryer on it. DO NOT USE HOT WATER - when washing, use only cold or cool temperature water. Washing with hot water will cause the cover to shrink, and not fit properly on your Wovenaire mattress. DO NOT USE HEAT TO DRY - Please be sure when speeding up the drying process, to only use cool air solutions. PLEASE DO NOT USE A DRYER TO DRY THE COVER OR THE WOVENAIRE MATTRESS. DO NOT USE A BLOW DRYER OR HEATING ELEMENT TO DRY AS HEAT MAY CAUSE THE COVER TO SHRINK AND CAN DAMAGE THE WOVENAIRE MATTRESS. How do I remove the cover of the mattress to wash? The cover has a full zip around the mattress, which allows for ease of changing and washing as needed! How often should I wash my mattress? You can wash your Wovenaire Crib Mattress as often as needed. Spot clean, or give it a full rinse whenever you like! The cover can be laundered as much as you desire, or as often as you would launder your fitted sheet.
