A charity megastore has opened at the former B&Q in Brookfield Street off North Road. Emmaus Preston launched on Recycle Week, 12-18 September, making Preston the home of the country’s biggest charity shop covering over 40,000 square feet. The Megastore is a homelessness charity that supports homeless people by providing them with a stable home and meaningful work, whilst helping them to move on in their lives and make a positive contribution to society. Read more: Homelessness charity closes Preston shop The Preston shop currently supports 26 formerly homeless people along with stocking furniture, whitegoods, household items, clothes and bric-a-brac. Director of Emmaus Preston Stephen Buchanan said:“Our new megastore in Preston will provide work to the formerly homeless people we support, generate an income to support Emmaus Preston and give people the chance to buy great value items for their home. “Our team of companions (the people we support), local volunteers and staff have worked tirelessly to get everything ready and we’re delighted to have the doors open for Recycle Week 2016.”
