LEGO: The Hobbit / LEGO: The Hobbit will not receive the expected downloadable expansion based on the final instalment of The Hobbit trilogy, publisher Warner Bros. confirmed, leaving its story unresolved. "The LEGO: The Hobbit video game gives LEGO and Middle-earth fans a fun, new way to experience the legendary adventures of Bilbo and company as told in the first two films of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy," the publisher said in a statement issued to GameSpot. "The game provides an excellent set-up for the concluding chapter of Peter Jackson’s film, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. There are no plans to develop DLC based on the final film of the trilogy.” Launching last April before the final movie’s cinematic release, LEGO: The Hobbit follows the storylines from the first two The Hobbit films: An Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug and ends on a cliffhanger. A press release dated April 8, 2014 reveals that Warner Bros. originally planned on concluding the game’s story with DLC based on third film, then titled There and Back Again: "Additional content based on the third film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, is planned to be available at a future release date."

We thought the adventure game immersed in the beloved Tolkien book did a great job of baking storytelling into its gameplay by incorporating major events from the first two films in bite-sized level form. We’ve reached out to Warner Bros. for more information and will update this article accordingly. Jenna Pitcher is a freelance journalist writing for IGN. Here, the designer and builder — Ben Pitchford — chats with us about his enormous creation, and how Lego has since asked him to submit a smaller, potentially commerciable, version to their Lego Ideas site. (If you’d like to see it become a reality — it needs 10,000 supporters to move to the next stage and is already almost halfway there — then head over to Ben’s page on Lego Ideas and add your backing.)

Tell us a bit about yourself. The cliff notes version, if you like! Ben P: I’m a big fan of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit books and movies. I also enjoy building LEGO with my kids and as a creative outlet after work. How long have you been building with LEGO, and what inspired you to start doing it seriously? Ben P: Like most LEGO fans I began building at a young age until my early teens and got back into it three years ago (before my oldest kid turned two). After discovering websites like Mocpages and The Brother’s Brick I realized the potential for building custom models instead of following the instructions on store bought sets. Posted in Creations, Fans, Green Books, Headlines, LEGO on April 22, 2015 byLEGO the Lord of the Rings is a licensed theme of the popular toy company. It appealed to both LEGO and the Lord of the Rings fans over the past two years. Unfortunately it looks like there will be no more LEGO LotR construction sets, while there is still so much left to explore.

Please help us raise awareness to save LEGO LotR. Back in 2011 the LEGO Group (TLG) announced the multi-year agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products to turn the characters and locations of the Lord of the Rings into the plastic toy we all know and love. Finally this popular franchise would be made into LEGO construction sets. “not only because we know they will foster collectability and creative play, but also because these are two properties that our fans have been asking us to create for years" These fans have been getting fantastic LEGO LotR sets from the summer of 2012 until June 2013, depicting scenes from all three movies: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Aside from being popular among children, the introduction of this theme has also drawn many AFOL’s (Adult Fan Of LEGO) back to their favorite childhood toy, commonly referred to as: ‘returning from their Dark Ages". But now the future of LEGO LotR looks rather dark itself.

With no new sets for over a year and the LEGO Hobbit theme ending in October 2014, closely followed by the last Hobbit movie (The Battle of the Five Armies) this December, chances for LEGO LotR sets are close to non-existent. To many of us the LEGO LotR theme feels incomplete. This is due to the lack of several major characters, creatures, buildings and locations. Some of the most striking oversights are LEGO versions of the complete Gondor faction, the city of Minas Tirith, the Balrog of Moria, the Witch-King with his iconic helmet and several important characters like Éowyn and Faramir. Even Sauron, the main villain of the story, doesn’t have his own depiction in LEGO form. Many fans would love this theme to continue forever, but a lot of us feel that most of the gaps could be filled with just one last wave. Only one last batch of sets could deal with the most important characters, settings and stories that are now left out. In this manner TLG could complete this theme in a proper way to honour the Lord of the Rings franchise and satisfy fans of both LEGO and the Lord of the Rings.

Warner Bros. and TT Games will not release a Lego Hobbit DLC pack to conclude the game's rendition of the film trilogy. The base game contains levels and characters from Peter Jackson's first two Hobbit films, then ends on a "to be a continued..."But after months of waiting, Warner has today told fans that no conclusion will be launched. An earlier, unconfirmed report suggested that the trilogy would be concluded via an expansion pack, which was widely expected to materialise around the time of Battle of the Five Armies' film release last December."The Lego The Hobbit video game gives Lego and Middle-earth fans a fun, new way to experience the legendary adventures of Bilbo and company as told in the first two films of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy," a Warner Bros. spokesperson explained, in a statement first published by Gamespot."
