UPDATE MAY, 2016: New York-based Aeropostale will be hosting a significant number of Going Out of Business Sales in New York in 2016 as part of the teen retail chain's Chapter 11 reorganization efforts. The biggest loss to the New York retail landscape will be the closing of the 19,000 square foot Aeropostale flagship store in Times Square. Another retail company with headquarters in New York is closing all of its New York brick-and-mortar retail store locations in 2016, along with 11 other stores in 7 states. Scoop NYC is going out of business completely in 2016, after 20 years selling curated luxury designer clothing in a high-end shopping experience which included wardrobe consultants before personal shoppers became part of the mainstream retail experience.The only Teavana Tea Stores owned and operated by Starbucks join Ann Taylor, Gap, Barnes & Noble, JCPenney and Macy's on the New York Retail Going Out of Business Sales list for 2016. If some of the largest U.S. retail chains can't make it there, will they continue to "make it" anywhere?
