And how most of it ends up being donated, sold, or shoved into storage, never to be seen again? Well, we hate to add to the noise, but with this one, we simply must. We’ve been getting to know the multi-purpose Stokke Tripp Trapp Chair, which is designed to bring little people (both young and not-so-young) into the heart of the action at the family dining table. We asked three families with kids aged from four months through to eight years – and even a sneaky teenager – to tell us how life has changed with this Scandi gem. And if you can’t get enough of the Stokke genius, check out our recent review of the Xplory stroller…

THE NEWBORN: Four-month-old Zygi and his mum, Ilona We love our Stokke Tripp Trapp and Newborn Set! At four months old, Zygi still doesn’t have great neck control and the angle of the insert is perfect. He’s comfortably reclined but upright enough for us to discuss itsy-bitsy spider at great length whilst making silly faces at each other. Many mums with newborns don’t even think about putting their baby in a highchair until they are eating solids and sitting up on their own – but dining tables aren’t just for eating – we spend time there on our laptops, doing work, reading, and having conversations. With an infant, you spend a lot of time on a play mat, so the chair gives us a welcome break and brings Zygi into the action in a way other chairs do not. Being an IKEA allen key survivor, the Stokke Tripp Trapp flat pack box sent alarm bells, however it was super easy and quick to assemble. We don’t need to store it away as it’s beautiful enough to be part of our table set-up.

The cover of the infant insert is removable and really easy to clean, and there are no difficult-to-clean nooks and crannies on the chair itself. It’s been a pleasure and easy to use. He took ages to adjust to baby carriers, so I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly he took to the chair. He loves being at the table with us – this is hard to do with an infant, so the Tripp Trapp makes this easy. I chose the Grey Haze colour as his room will be mostly grey tones – it’s an elegant neutral colour. The adjustable seat and footrest make it such a worthwhile investment, and its modern design is timeless. The infant stage is so short, so I love that the Tripp Trapp can grow with him and be part of his childhood history. THE TODDLER: 15-month-old Edie and her mum, Lindene Definitely, although I’d also say that it’s made family life lovelier. Now that Edie can join us at the dining table it’s become more of a hub for the family. We start the day together over breakfast, chat, play games, and catch the flying banana chunks when we can.

Its ergonomic design also means it’s simple to adjust as the child grows (or you realise you’ve underestimated her leg length). Cleaning is just a matter of wiping it down and getting on with life. It now lives permanently at the dining table as it fits nicely with the rest of our decor. She’s having a ball! She used to sit in a highchair away from the dining table, simply because it didn’t fit. Now, with the Baby Set attachment she’s chuffed at the idea of spending her meal times at the table with us. She’ll often start laughing with great gusto for no apparent reason, so that seems a pretty solid endorsement. I’m looking forward to the stage where Edie has the patience to sit at the table to draw and do activities with me. In the meantime we’ll continue bonding over food missiles and belly laughs. And possibly go shopping for Tripp Trapp number two for baby number two! It’s rock solid (previous high chairs we have used often felt like they would tip over if my child moved too much) and I also love the fact that it fits in so much better with my furniture than the plastic monstrosities we have had before!

It is great to see my child’s face at the dinner table now: prior to the Tripp Trapp she was too small for our dining chair, but too big for a traditional high chair. This is the absolute perfect height and design for her to sit comfortably and ergonomically with us at meal times, and also for her to use the dining table to study, too. There are very few ‘must-haves’ for the kids that I have bought and loved over the 14 years I have spent doing this parenting thing. I have an endless list of items I bought because they were popular or a friend had one, only to find that they were really not that useful after all. And then I have the things that really have made life so much easier… The Tripp Trapp is one of them! I only wish I had bought one years ago. Angelica loves her new chair! She is a total pink princess so the colour got a huge thumbs up, plus she loves that it doesn’t look like a ‘baby chair’ and that she can now sit at the dining table properly. She and her younger brother do fight over it though.

They both love it! Meal times at the dining table were a bit awkward for Angelica previously as she would have to sit up on her knees on the chair to be able to have a meal or study there. The design of the chair is spot on for older kids who don’t want to be seen in a high chair. I love that it is a piece of furniture rather than ‘baby equipment’. It will last us for years, and I’ve even found the teenager secretly sitting on it on more than one occasion because it’s so comfy to use! (Don’t tell him I told you that). We will keep it at the dining table for years as my smaller two won’t outgrow it for some time to come. And even if they don’t want to use it at the dining table down the line, Angelica would happily have the Tripp Trapp in her bedroom. This post is sponsored by Stokke.OXO's high chairs and booster seats are perfect for kids 6 months to 5 years Click here to give us feedback or report bugs about the new version of ezbuy websiteIf you have an infant or small child on your booking you may bring one of each of the following:
