Santal 33 by Le Labo is a Woody Aromatic fragrance for women and men. Santal 33 was launched in 2011. The nose behind this fragrance is Frank Voelkl.

I may be anosmic to this, because all I get from it is hot, dry sawdust and a hint of dry leather. A lone cowboy beside a campfire, but muted way, way down until it’s barely even a skin scent.

I don’t dislike the smell itself, but it’s so vague and 'far away' smelling as to be pointless. I sprayed myself six times, and for about five minutes it projected a little. Then it became a skin scent. So I sprayed my neck and wrists four more times, and again, I got a little bit of projection for maybe five minutes before it faded to nothing, just a dusty wood and leather scent I can only detect with my nose touching my wrist.

Interestingly, on a card swatch, the full array of notes seem to endure much longer. However, I can’t say I like Santal 33 on a card swatch, either. All I get when it’s on a swatch is a harshly woodsy, mentholated scent; like a household cleaning product marketed to men.

ETA: After six hours, the swatch is finally giving me the pickle juice note other people have talked about.
