So, I got this heating pad at the store a while back to use as a hedgehog heating pad. I found out that the 2-hour auto-off timer was hardcoded into the circuit, and they didnt even bother to put a switch on the casing to disable it. Typical overprotection of the consumer - this wouldnt exist if our country was a bit less litigious. African hedgehogs need at least 72F to be happy, so a heating pad under the cage is recommended. I mean, how could you say no to his face? So, to disable it, I decided to take it apart and find the culprit like this guy did. Its too bad that for some reason they decided to make it even harder to change this feature.Step 1: Surveying The SituationShow All Items07.28« PreviousNext »View All Steps DownloadAn airy apartment with lots of light, and a lot of privacy. Last week, analysts at BTIG speculated that Netflix might be the “only hope” for Disney, and that it would cost Mickey Mouse & Co. at least $100 billion to buy up the video-streaming leader. On Tuesday, a Morgan Stanley survey said that consumers rank Netflix as No. 1, above HBO and everything else, in terms of original programming of Internet streaming services. And if you have a 4K TV, you can soon start getting Netflix programming in that new, high dynamic range quality. It’s going to get busier for the Los Gatos-based company soon, too. On Monday, Netflix is scheduled to give its first-quarter earnings report, and analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters have forecast Netflix to report a profit of 3 cents a share on $1.97 billion in revenue for the quarter that ended in March.

This means that many of those analysts are starting to weigh in with some of their thoughts on what to look for from Netflix’s results and outlook in a few days. Rich Greenfield, of BTIG Research, said Thursday that he now thinks Netflix will end the year with almost 20 million new subscribers, up from a prior estimate of 18.7 million subscriber additions. Greenfield also raised his price target on Netflix’s stock to $150 a share from $136. “The combination of a global shift to on-demand streaming video, an increasingly diverse slate of programming that appeals to all members of a household and best-in-class technology is propelling Netflix’s gross subscriber adds and reducing (customer) churn,” Greenfield said, in  a research note. Meanwhile, Michael Pachter, of Wedbush Securities, took a slightly contrarian view on Netflix. Pachter, who has just a $45-a-share price target on Netflix’s stock, said he thinks Netflix’s first-quarter subscriber growth “should be solid,” but that upcoming new subscriber gains will be impacted by the company’s price increase.

There’s a price hike coming soon, too. All of you that were grandfathered in at $7.99 a month two years ago? Well, Grandpa’s leaving town. The Sum Of All Fears: The lawyers at Uber are a busy lot these days, with at least 170 suits going on against the car-service company. And a report in the U.K.-based Guardian says Uber has paid out almost $62 million in legal settlements since 2009…Or, an about equal to 0.1 percent of Uber’s approximate value of $62.5 billion. And for those wanting to keep score at home, whether you are a lawyer or not, the Guardian has a handy list of all the lawsuits Uber has settled, and the amounts involved, over the past seven years. What’s The View From Here?:  The market for virtual reality headsets and their attendant products is just getting off the ground. Facebook’s Oculus Rift headsets, for example, have only been shipping for less than a month. But component shortages have already hit the industry, leading to delays in deliveries and some upset customers.

Other VR gear sets from the likes of Sony and Samsung have had their release dates pushed back several months this year. So, it should be no surprise that the projections (no pun intended) for sales of VR equipment are now being lowered by some industry research firms. One of the most-recent of which came from the awesomely named SuperData Research, which this week said it expects VR hardware sales this year to clock in at $2.86 billion, or 22 percent less than what it had forecast just in March. Maybe She Can Still Sell Plasma? It looks Elizabeth Holmes better get her resume in order. The U.S. government wants to ban the Theranos founder and chief executive from doing business in blood-testing business for at least two years due to problems that Theranos failed to fix at its testing lab in California. The Wall Street Journal reported that Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services plans to revoke the Theranos’ federal license and block Holmes and company president, Sunny Balwani, from running labs in California and Arizona for a minimum of two years.

Theranos can appeal the ban, but these types of appeals don’t have much of a history of success. Here’s a look at how some leading Silicon Valley stocks did Wednesday… Movin’ On Up: Look at GoPro go! The sport-action camera maker’s shares surged by more than 19 percent after GoPro said it hired product designer Danny Coster away from Apple. Gains also came from Medivation, QuinStreet, FireEye and Gigamon. In The Red: RocketFuel, Oclaro, LendingClub, Advanced Micro Devices and Equinix all ended the day in negative territory. The SV150 Index of Silicon Valley’s biggest companies rose 2 percent to 1,638. The tech-focused Nasdaq Composite Index added 1.3 percent to close at 4,548. The blue chip Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1 percent to 17,827. And the broad-based Standard & Poor’s 500 Index also rose 1 percent to end the day at 2,075.
