Minimaal 6 tekens met in ieder geval: 1 cijfer, 1 hoofdletter en 1 kleine letter Wachtwoord ter bevestiging *Dutch designer Christian Heikoop has created a flat-pack furniture collection that is assembled in the same way as a tent.

Currently on display at Dutch Design Week, the range is based on retro camping equipment. Designed to be easily and quickly put together without tools or screws, the framework of each piece is made from metal tubes that slide into stitched leather sleeves. The Glissade chair has 12 pieces, including a curved metal rod that forms the back and a rectangular tube that supports the seat and front legs. Once assembled the chair has a low back and wide seat, with the leather appearing as if it's been shrink-wrapped to the frame. "I really like the way that camping equipment uses such a select amount of easily accessible materials that are very consistently applied throughout the designs," Heikoop told Dezeen. "This way there is such an emphasis on the connection: if it's a screw, a weld or a hinge." The range also includes a pair of benches and a table, each covered in leather of various colours. Heikoop graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven this year and has completed several other projects, including a series of paper masks for fashion label Kenzo.

"A lot of flat-packed systems can be intimidating and burden you from actually putting them together, without your toolbox," added the designer. "Creating a straightforward system without any screws, fixings, tools, where you'd only need your hands, takes away this burden," he continued. "Instead it is drawing attention to the dialogue between two materials and their connecting aspect with each other." This year has seen several designers create fresh takes on flat-pack furniture, from a modular collection designed to rival Ikea in ease-of-assembly to a range of wooden furniture designed to last longer. Major design brands are also getting in on the act, with the Bouroullec brothers designing a customisable self-assembly sofa for Hay and Normann Copenhagen adding flat-pack lounge chairs to its range. The entire Glissade collection is on display at the Design Academy Eindhoven graduate exhibition at Dutch Design Week, which takes place from 22 to 30 October 2016.

For over half a century, Irish heritage brand Mourne Textiles has been hand weaving fabrics and designing furnishings at the foot of the Mourne Mountains in County Down. This family business, started by late Norwegian design pioneer Gerd Hay-Edie, uses traditional weaving techniques on custom-made handlooms, to create a contemporary lifestyle collection. Gerd handed down these techniques to daughter Karen Hay-Edie, a master-weaver in her own right, who in turn passed the baton to her grandson, Mario Sierra. From humble beginnings in a small workshop in the late 1940s, Gerd’s name became a staple in mid-century British design. Gerd developed long-standing collaborations with Robin Day for Hille & Co and Terence Conran, for whom she designed upholstery and rugs. Mourne Textiles sources yarns from Donegal, which it custom dyes to match the heritage pieces and iconic designs created by Gerd, bringing her designs back to life for a new generation. The design intent with the Frame chair is one of quietness and calm.

It is a piece that suggests succor, which belies a complexity in process and construction. This piece is an evolution of the Dowel Chair, released as part of notion’s first collection for NTN in January 2014. This original chair used a traditional furniture typeform as a counterpoint to industrial fabrics from Denmark. With the introduction of the hand-woven textiles from Mourne this balance has been redressed. The heritage fabrics are now countered by more contemporary geometry; a CNC machined Ash seat pan and anodized aluminium legs. This collection is being shown as part of the Liminal Exhibition. This event explores the idea of liminality through both geographic location and design relationships. It seeks to investigate how Ireland’s position as an island on the western edge of Europe informs design work. Alongside this it explores how collaborations between designers and manufacturers working in Ireland facilitate new work. Liminal will be shown at the following locations:
