As ICFF and New York Design Week’s extensive program drew to a close early this week, Clerkenwell Design Week got under way in London, and the Danish furniture brands Carl Hansen & Son and Rud Rasmussen traded in Manhattan’s hustle and bustle for East London’s laid-back cool, opening a joint showroom in the heart of the city’s design district.Set over three floors of a historic building with exposed brick walls and typically Scandinavian light wood floors, the warehouse space provides a stunning, stark backdrop to the brands’ heavy-hitting mix of midcentury designs. The ground floor will host a rotating set of curated rooms in a gallery-style setting, while the second floor will showcase the full Carl Hansen & Son collection, from Hans J. Wegner’s ever-popular Wishbone chair to Frits Henningsen’s stately upholstered Heritage chair.The top floor will be reserved for the exclusive Rud Rasmussen collection, acquired by Carl Hansen in 2011. It includes some of the crown jewels of early Danish modernism, such as Kaare Klint's groundbreaking Faaobrg chair and designs by Mogens Koch.“
